Looking to buy a small, cheap sd card camcorder
February 10, 2010, 03:07:10 pm
I'm after a small, memory card camcorder to mainly use for family stuff, i'll also use it for a bit of climbing.
It need to be sub £100 and preferably do 720. I also want it to hold it like a camcorder and not like a mobile phone. something like the toshiba camileo h20 or p30 but slightly cheaper and preferably be able to but it on a tripod.

any suggestions?

There's a few about, but I can't advise you on them I'm afraid.
Andy reason you want SD rather than HDD?

Don't HDD tend towards slightly bulkier than SD?

Vaguely looking for something similar at the moment and I think it's a tall order Jim. Cheap, quality, small - choose any two.

I think your price will be the sticking point, unless you go with 2nd hand.

You'll probably be looking at something like the Aiptek AHD200 or similar, but is that not a shape you'd want?

I think HDD is more expensive and bulkier. The toshiba's are only just over £100

I remember something on this on the Gadget show before Xmas... but cant remember the reccomendation (was only 1/2 watching) but might be worth a trawl on their website - there was one clear winner IIRC.. which was about £100-120 (probably cheaper now)

Were they not testing waterproof camcorders? Or was that not the show you were talking about?

I've got a slightly higher-up model than this. fit's your requirements I think.

mine works well enough for me to recommend this, but there's very little info out there on how well it works/reviews etc

I think that might have been another show - the episodes just seem to blur... at least the re-occuring nightmares featuring the short bald guy have stopped  ;)

Which Sanyo reviews you looking at Jim, tempted by the Waterproof HD ones, but reviews are mixed.

just general reviews from sites like amazon etc...
The overall reviews for the sanyo were far better than the toshiba

Paul - Being a tight-arse I've got it on free delivery so won't get it till next friday.
I don't know why they do this, you would of thought they would want to get rid asap, ie make room in their warehouse.

But the D3x is aimed at studio photography, I'd have thought you'd have been more a D3s man cofe?

Already got a stack of them too. You can never have too many heavy, expensive cameras when you can only really hold one to take a photo. But fuck it. As money's no object, I might buy a few more to bandy around.
