Who owns our free time now?
February 05, 2010, 04:09:21 pm
With all the crashing and downtime of UKB at the moment I can only assume someone is taking over.

Who what where why when etc...and stuff

I suspect the crashing is more likely to do with the recent upgrades than a change of host... Of course, this is purely conjecture.

Hi there Mick. I look forward to recieving my Iron Moderators exoskeleton

The recent crashes are either due to some miscreant attacking the server, simply due to the ever increasing traffic that the forums are getting, or both.

The servers really need more horsepower and I've recommended this to the new owners. Both sites are way more popular now than they were say a year ago and they are outgrowing their current server platform.

Who are the new owners?  At their request I'm not at liberty to divulge their identity but I suspect they will be making some sort of statement when the deal is finalised...
...which shouldn't take very much longer now. I know it appears it's taking ages but there's a surprising amount of stuff that needs to be done in order to come up with legally binding sales documents, etc.

Ohhhhhh shit.
I feel that's not of consequence but I wouldn't be surprised if Mick was the one with the capital and motive to snap up UKB. Let's hope he leaves it as the winning formula that it is if he is the buyer.

Well, it's certainly a remarkable co-incidence isn't it?

I doubt it's anything to do with genuine love for the UK bouldering community; I suspect it's largely down to ukc trying to get back onto the first page of google results for "bouldering" in order to keep their advertisers happy.

Why would ukclimbing want this forum? They've poured scorn upon it for years.

Just be reading the forum your circulation of blood will be improved, boosting muscle oxygenation and thermal regulation.

Not only that you will experience improved metabolism, stimulated diuresis and less waste.

Given the past nature of my psychic visions I can only assume that Prince Adam has bought the forum with the proceeds from his sale of snowy landings.

Part of the contract is that you have to post topless gurn pics of yourself, mostly whilst wearing brightly coloured leg warmers.  Climbing equivalent of this I suppose

No Jon, it's fine honestly - they have already been in touch with me and asked me to remind you of their ability to heal you. By posting a link... I'm wearing a pair of the prototype legwarmers tonight and have already experienced increased diuresis and a heightened sense of wellness.

Bizarrely I also almost lost my balance while imitating a rather complex James Brown dance move / spin / splits manoeuvre in the parlour earlier...

Thats exactly why I never post on UKC (OK not never - but my one post in the last year was in the found section...)...
Even the land rover forum seemed to be better moderated (despite many other reasons why I may not like that forum..)

The cynic in me wonders how much it is to do with UKC being a 'commercial site'
The less cynical part of me suspects its due to the character of the owners/moderators/managers....

Anyway, I look forward to hearing who the new owners of UKB are, and hope that they continue to give it the freedom to be as damned good as it is at the moment.  to Bubba for all his hard work.

It was a reference to Falling Down's post above it, ie the pseudo-science bullshit that Accapi peddle.

Same people as before at the moment.

The site hasn't actually been sold yet, although we're nearly there.

LOL. That's pretty impressively wrong on every count, apart from arguably "offensive" but the offence is at least intended, documented, and kept to certain threads, rather than being the offence of repeated teeth-grinding idiocy featured elsewhere...

Craggs should look closer to home before pointing the finger of juvinility and offence. I note ukc is happy for people to have usernames like "nignogbob".

If that isn't the pot is calling the kettle african-caribean then i don't know what is.

Instead of slagging off this site i recon Craggs' time would be better spent trying to sell all the copies of "100 best limestone climbs".

If you replace 016 with 006 at the end of that link you can see the label of the leg warmers, should you wish to buy similar ones.
