MsMoney / Quicken Help!
January 15, 2010, 05:01:03 pm
I've got a bit of a problem; I was recently tasked to find my folks a new pc and sort it all out for them, which with the help of UKB I have now done. When I've come to put all of their docs etc. back on the computer I've encountered a bit of a problem.

All of their accounts were made in Ms Money 2004 which is on the system disks for the old pc which has had a lot of hardware failure hence I haven't got a copy.

I've installed MsMoney 2007 on the new pc but as its a US version it won't let you open UK files.

Quicken needs Money 2004 to be able to convert it into the correct format so I'm currently a bit stuffed. Does anybody have a UK copy of MsMoney2004 that they'd be willing to open the file, export it as a .qif and pass it back my way? or is there anything else that will open it/convert it?

Any other suggestions welcome...

Oh and as Ms have discontinued money should I force them into moving to Quicken now?

Thanks as usual
Paul

Jasper is the man to give advise on accounts packages.............but we used quicken (free with Barclay's Business account) and it's toss.  I have a version of Sage that is easy to use and pretty standard for accountants (I think)

Ah, the joys of proprietary software

This article suggests you might have some trouble.

it wouldn't be an issue if the other pc wasn't completely f*cked. All I need is a working version of Ms Money from the UK....then I can export it as a .qif and then import it into 2007 US or something non microsoft.

I'm fairly sure I've got a copy of money somewhere, I've just had a quick look and not found it and I also don't know which version it is, I'll try and have a proper look tomorrow. If I can find it you can have it.

(Bear in mind I also have two copies of Peak Bouldering Rockfax neither of which I can find to give away, just making the point that finding things presents something of a problem for me so if I was you I'd continue to explore other avenues)

As mentioned on PM, unfortunately not my area of expertise so I'm no help.  :(

This looks like a useful link though as I wouldn't ever recommend paying for personal finance software:
