With Canon you can't
January 31, 2010, 08:02:37 pm
Has anyone else had trouble with Canon customer services?

I am trying to get a wide angled lens hood for my WD H43 lens.  Unc kindly sent me a link to this but they want as much in P+P as it costs.

So I thought I'd ask Canon, knowing that the HX A1 hood fits.  First e-mail I asked what hoods fit the WD H43 and thet replied thus:

Thank you for contacting Canon Support. Your reference/ticket number is 669622. We are sorry to hear about the prob-lems you are having with your Canon product WD H43.

We strongly recommend you contact a Canon authorised service facility as they may be able to supply you with a lens hood. If this is not the case, we suggest you search the internet for third party retailers. As you have probably ascertained, your product has developed a technical fault and will need to be looked at by a technician. A list of available repair centres can be obtained via the following link:
http://www.canon.co.uk/Support/Consumer_Products/services_locator/index.aspx , you will need to select Lenses from the drop-down menu.  Contact a repair centre of your choice.

Should you have any further queries, please do not hesitate to contact us on the telephone number below ensuring to quote your Canon Helpdesk ticket number noted in the subject line above. Alternatively, you can reply directly to this email by navigating to the link below.

I've asked in a few shops but they need more info about the hood in order to price it etc.  So after a bit more hunting I decided to ask again.  This time I specifically asked for info on the replacement of an XH A1 hood.  And this is the reply:

These smack of (semi-) automated replies which want me to phone a number I will no doubt be charged for.  Surely it's a simple question as to what part number I need?

Or am I expecting too much?

Any hints on the hood also well received  8)

Cheers JB, I've had a good look but not found much yet.

I was just a bit surprised that Canon can't advise about their own product.
