It's the annual trip to the in-laws so a rare chance to enjoy t'grit.

Tomorrow looks wet but Thursday's forecast is to be bright and breezy.  Any locals got recommendations for areas likely to dry quickly?  I've never bouldered at Ramshaw so keen to try there, Teirdrop in particular, but guess that faces east so won't be getting the drying south westerly.

It's very wet here today..

I would have thought your best bet at Ramshaw would be the magic roundabout boulders - nice clean lines very exposed to the wind so dry quickly + good quality probs at a nice spread of grades.. Slightly high ball tho and pads tend to blow away if its windy!

V much doubt tierdrop would be in sorry - the top slab seeps plenty..

Cheers for that.  I'm a Scottish boulderer so a few tent pegs to keep the pads down are always in the bag!

The very very far skyline boulders and doxey's pool boulders all dry quickly but again that is because they are so exposed so if wind is really up might not be too much fun. Also ground around Doxey's pool boulders can be very boggy, the very far skyline boulders aren't as bad in this respect..

Both these spots can be found at the Roaches.

In case anyone was wondering how bad Western grit compares to Eastern, I just read this on the news:

It follows wintry showers across northern Ireland, Wales and eastern England earlier, with the town of Leek in Staffordshire recording the day's heaviest snowfall of 12cm (4.7in).

Roaches lower tier was bolloxed this afternoon apart from the rumour and c3p0. Ramshaw was a much better shout, cleaned monologue, epilogue, night of lust and the left hand variant and California screaming was a go too. Some people on ram air as we left as well.

Access by car to Roaches, Ramshaw and Gib Torr all possible today (Hyundai i20). Roaches lower tier pretty cold and damp as said above but upper tier had some dry spots. Pretty much all problems on calcutta buttress climbable and I saw lots of people getting on top of the large boulder with left + right groove climbs on...

Stall at Gib Torr wet (receving drips of water from melting snow high above). The fin also unclimbable (top out covvered in snow!).

Bit and bobs mentioned in above post at Ramhaw were indeed cleaned/ dry etc good job doing that ! :D

with the tetris boulder being dry, do people think the skyline might also be dry?

We were at ramshaw this morning and night of lust was dry but everything else was minging in the fog;roaches was also in it. Sun came out later on so it should have dried it out and it was thawing quick enough that snow on the skyline boulders will have gone. But check the webcams tomorrow because if it's in the clag again you'll be knackered.

Just for info, Roaches today was generally good and dry.  I visited Tetris block, Spring Slab and Calcutta Buttress and they were all good.  Most of the lower tier stuff in the trees were still dank and damp, and some of the upper tier things too (e.g. Nadins Traverse). 

Thinking I'll try Ramshaw tomorrow morning...

Looks like no one has posted in this in a while but anyone got any ideas about what might be dry on the Western Grit tomorrow? Tempted by Ramshaw/Newstones/Baldstones if they'll be in condition as I've been to the Roaches a lot.

All but the most exposed rock was dripping wet today and the forecast is log for tomorrow so all likely to be wet.

Crags facing the sun and the wind dried out okay yesterday, others did not. Still a good breeze today so if you can find somewhere in the wind but out of the clag you might be in luck.
