I wouldn't bother mate. We tried to get up on Monday and all the roads going up that way from Hathersage were closed we struggled to get up to Curbar. You might have more look from Sheffield side though.

Easiest way to get to Burbage Bridge would be to park at the Fox House and walk.

But look at the pic JB posted and its not going to be worth it.

The road from Ringinglow to Burbage Bridge had a sign saying "Road Closed" at the Ringinglow end this morning. Looked drivable to me

I think it has to be pretty bad for them to put the signs out. I remember seeing a delivery van stuck near the parking last year in full snow, even then it didn't warrant the signs.

I headed up there in a 2wd xmas eve when it looked ok, managed to keep momentum going and made it up but on the drop down to the parking at burbage north realised I was screwed. Got stuck there for about 30 minutes trying to dig tracks out but only when some folk offered to push too did I get going again.

Snowing heavily now in Grindleford, you're more likely to be able to sledge down great slab at Froggatt than climb it.

No probs Bonjoy  :)

Went for a walk up Alport valley Sunday to the Castles, some big cornices there that we kicked steps up...

My friend then fell through them further along (steps are where he'd tried getting back up, but too steep at the top, and would more likely have pulled a load more snow down on himself)

Aye, with the strong easterly wind there was a fair bit of wind slab under the edge and even our mini avalanches were a touch scary. I dare say some slopes in the peak are quite dangerous.

:agree: There was tons of collapsed cornices as we walked into the Castles, glad none of them came down on us (bar the one my mate fell through)!

I think most of the drifting has happened since they visited. Most buttresses had little visible rock on them on Saturday!

That figures actually. They'd have been there on the 4th. This weekend there was snow being blown over the main road just above fox house, and on the A57 near moscar - pretty fucking drifty etc.

Too much speculation, not enough FACTS on this thread. I went up there today and had a great session bouldering, here's the proof:

Banana finger - as you can see, dry Rock, soft landings

Warming up on Blind Fig

Small is beautiful - don't remember it being so easy before, that big move felt piss, I must be getting stronger.

Warm-up/ Twenty-foot crack area. As you can see, I just did the crack. It pains me to admit this but, for the first time in my life, I failed to top out. Shit conditions? Felt a bit warm tbh.

WSS looked fairly snow free yesterday, though I didn't look closely. Unless we get some westerlies it faces the wrong way for the kind of snow build-up affecting Burb North. Given a sunny day and some early brushing I could see it being in great nick. I can't see the road being open for a while yet though - you'll be looking at walking in from Fox house or Millstone.

Hello all!

I'm italian.
I'm probably coming to Peak this week.
About climbing I can understand that it will be very difficult to find something free of snow.
Only WSS  that I could try of course :)
But I would like to know how is streets situation.
It's dangerous to move in the area or are them free of snow and ice?
I land at Liverpool airport so it's a long trip if there is snow.
Thanks a lot ;)

You're main problem from Liverpool will be that some of the roads to the Eastern Edges are shut, primarily the A57 Snake Pass.

There are alternatives though such as the A628 which brings you into the north of Sheffield and you can then get to Burbage/Stanage with some effort.  Roads are changing daily and things are supposed to get warmer this weekend, which means the roads might get clearer, but the bouldering will get wetter.

Alternatively you could go to some of the Western grit bouldering areas such as The Roaches (if you can get a car there!), but I'd imagine they're all as plastered as the Eastern edges.

Yet another option would be to consider going to Parisella's Cave in Llandudno.

If you're on the train, you can probably get around more easily (never thought I'd write that!). Liverpool to Sheffield, then on to Hathersage, and a short walk up the hill (pop into Outside for directions) to get to Burbage West.

Or if you decide that Slack-line has the right idea, the trains from Liverpool will go to Llandudno, and you can beast yourself in the Cave of Justice.

If you are in a car, then you can get off the M60 (Manchester Ring Road) at Stockport, and take the A6, and A623 via Chapel-en-le-Frith, and Tideswell, then cut through from Calver, to Hathersage, via Grindleford.

As an aside, you don't know tall Danny do you?

Or Pex Hill might still be in great condition if you like highball technical wall climbing (and is about 15 mins drive from the Airport!)

i find it very irritating that there seems to be a natural reaction amongst most climbers to jibe anything that they either don't like or can't do ( in most cases both). i have been guilty of it myself but having sat in a pub full of ice climbers trying to justify having a LOT of fun in the cave i am mightily sick of it. i  don't like ice climbing but if i said it was wank i would be shot down in flames and rightly so.

Thats par for the course at almscliffe though, I've had that before a few times - as soon as it transpires you've come from sheffield you get some monologue about how shit the plantation is. Must be underlying insecurity or something.

Burbage north is still leathered with snow as are the Burbage south boulders. Secret garden and mothercap (David etc) are fairly free of snow but were completely soaking wet .

Road closed sign still evident at the Norfolk Arms although some cars were ignoring this and were able to maybe get another 800 yards to a layby. 4x4 only after that still.
