tell me where to get my camera repaired!
January 03, 2010, 08:04:42 am
can anyone rep a good camera repair outfit that you feel can be trusted for a value for money quote.
cam is a D50. and the built in flash is kerrrr-fucked.
(is it worth getting it pro cleaned at the same time? do they really do a better job than me (have better equipment)?)

Btw i am in manchester, but willing to post it to a good one.

cheers ears.

I personally would let anyone other than an authorised repairer near it.

If Nikon (D50 is a Nikon isn't it?) are anywhere near as good as Pentax were with mine (5 day turnaround with a wedding looming!) then it is worth the effort.

Don't know about value for money but last time one of my cameras broke I took it to jessops, I didn't get it back for about three weeks or so. Might be worth trying the camera shops in Manc.

if you get expensive quotes for repairs also look at second hand d50s, i'm they go for fuck all these days anyway.

Why not use it as an excuse to get a proper flash gun (personally I find the built-in flash a bit pants on my D50).

All jessops do is take cameras in, and then send them to the UK dealer for repair. Cut out the middle man.

thanks guys, im sending a few emails to get a ball park figure, but if it is mega i will either:
a) buy a "new" second hand Dsomething.
b) get a flash gun.

Fixation UK

The best Nikon Service centre I have ever used!

http://fixationuk.com/Fixation/Repairs.html

As used by top pro's, photojournalists, and loads of agencies in London.

You only have to look at the size of their repair team to see how in demand they always are, I can't recommend them enough, they normally do my sensor cleans while I wait and have a coffee, and they are very quick and efficient with repairs.

Oh and with regards to getting a pro to clean your camera, for me its not about whether they do a better job (although 9 times out of ten they usually will), but more about the fact that they are insured if they damage your sensor whilst cleaning, whereas if you do you're fucked!

The question I ask myself is, who do I trust more to service my camera body without causing a repair bill in the region of several hundred pounds....
me or the people that do it for a living?
