What grade do you climb at?
December 12, 2009, 12:53:41 am
I've had search through the forum and I can't find a topic similar to this, even if I did it would be out date by now!

I've been mooching about on the forum for about a year now, but I've not really participated in many threads because.....quite simply I've found it to be a bit of a "Sheffield" club and thought there's no point participating! But then I thought that it's an internet forum, lets try and make it a bit more open!

So to open the thread my simple question is what grade do you climb at and how long you been climbing?

I'm sure for most people on here they already know the answer to what all the regulars are going to post, but at least for the non-regulars they'll know a bit more about the other users.

For the record.....I've only been climbing for about a year and a half (I'm 36 - I wish I started when I was a young'en), I've been taking it seriously for the last 6 months or so and according to the grades at my local bouldering place (Climb Newcastle) I'm at or around 6b/6c (font).

**edit**

Embarrassed to say - I haven't climbed outside yet. I Intend to rectify that next year!

There's people from all over on here, it's not just Sheffield...

And there's folks who climb at all grades, from total beginners to some of the best in the UK.

Sorry to log-pile your topic, but the "what grade do you climb" thing is a bit of a cringe

Don't be put off posting though ;)

How mean of you to shitheap this ace thread!

For the record, myself (I'm awesome, by-the-way) and the talented climber and poet Si O Connor have climbed upto V16.  We're no fucking slouches I can tell you!

I'm confident I'll bag V17 before the year is out.

you cant say you climb at font 6b/6c if you have never climbed outside?!?! Even though Climb Newcastle is a great wall, indoor grades mean nothing. Get yourself out in the county, theres loads to go at...

Sorry for posting such a load of rubbish...I was cringing myself when I read it back in the cold light of day.

It deserves the log pile....

I was rather drunk last night.....I must learn not to go on the internet when drunk... :spank:

Google chrome mate, it tells you when you've misspelt!

Besides, copious amounts of alcohol and ganja might distort my judgement but I'm still able to spell - I might be a twat but I'm not illiterate!

I was thinking about this the other day - not about what grade i climb, but rather why it is somehow distasteful to ask, and I concluded its a bit like asking someone how much they earn - serves no purpose other than to rank the object of your question in terms of how good they are (or arent) relative to you. Its a bit like saying 'How bigs your cock then?'

I climbed my stairs (VDiff) twice this morning

No no no - I have seen you on stairs, and dont think you are capable. Who saw you?

Further to what Dob says, this phrase usually sniffs out non-climbers who once went to a wall or someone talking about their mate who goes to the wall once a week, (he is REALLY good), and is bound to be better than you.

I usually find it difficult to extricate myself from these conversations without coming off as a total patronising cunt.

Everyone knows what grade you climb at though Dob as you write about all your bouldering successes and failures in great detail!
