Go on bare your soul - what's your top 10? or 20? (any more is taking the piss)

I am still deciding.

Oh ha ha ha. It's format that non-geeks and children who download singles listen to music in.

Just five from me and in no particular order:

Continental - Robin Guthrie. I'm an unadulterated fan of Guthrie's work and this is the best of a pretty good bunch he's brought out in the last 4 or 5 years. In another year or two I may place his current album Carousel above this one.

The Flying Club Cup - Beirut. The second album from an idiosyncratic young folk/world music influenced multi-intrumentalist from New Mexico builds on the promise of his debut.

Goodbye - Ulrich Schnauss. Beautiful soundscapes from one of the best at the more ambient end of the music spectrum.

High - The Blue Nile. Maybe not quite up with their first two albums back in the 80s but a major recovery from the disappontment of 1996's Peace at Last.

Mirrorball - John Foxx & Robin Guthrie. Thirty years ago I was a fan of the original Ultravox then for many years I've been a fan of the Cocteau Twins so i wasn't surprised to find I liked this one!

Generally, I have found this to be a bland decade lacking in originality or real creativity as far as "popular" music is concerned. I do realise that this is at least partly due to ageing and the resulting ossification of the brain!

Off the top of my head.........

Either Funeral or Neon Bible by Arcade Fire. Both are amazing. Probably the best live band I've seen in that time too.

Thunder, Lightning, Strike by The Go! Team.

Music in Mouth by Bell X1.

Chase This Light by Jimmy Eat World.

A Grand Don't Come For Free by The Streets.

Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots by Flaming Lips.

I'll think of more.

Most overrated load of dogshit, anything by Franz Ferdinand or The White Stripes.  :)

Can't believe The Times have Kid A at #1 and yet there is no mention of the far superior Shirehorses album Our Kid Eh.

A lot more entertaining than Chris Moyle's "hilarious" parody album (I suspect, having not listened to it).

I presume so as "Tony" is probably the best parody song ever made.

I tend to like albums with drums in. Quite partial to ones with bass as well. Can't think of any of the top of my head though.

I thought that, but Amazon says there was a version released in 2001, might have been a re-issue though.

If you want Bon Iver in a list you know what to do.....

I was meaning the 2000 album; the version I've got is called Jimmy Eat World  - was retitled after 9/11...  ;D
