Google Maps is also to be removed from iferns with the next OS update in favour of their own map product.  Its going to have some stuff competition with the existing user generated content that has been accrued over several years on Google Maps.

Yeah I initially thought there's a chance Apple might buy the data from TomTom but it sounds like they have their own aerial stuff planned using military drones. Your right it will take a lot of investment to beat the Google data. Google traffic alone is enough reason to own an android phone. Ifern users out there, can you currently use Google traffic on your phones?

They are licensing the data from TomTom according to an article I read today..

Yes - I think so, red lines on the maps for traffic?

Not the best thing Google has done. Looks better than it works, couldn't connect to the music bit when I tried.

Unsurprisingly the first version of Apple Maps without Google data is a bit shit...

Anyone know how you can find out how old the images on a certain part of google maps are?

Works for me but I suspect you need the actual Google Earth desktop application, not an iPad app or just clicking the "google earth" tab whilst in maps.

Looking at my house, it says "Imagery Date 9/21/2008"

Wow that is cheap! Just heard a review on the radio that said it has the best screen on the market.

No SD card slot but I suppose with the 16GB one at £279 that's not such a big deal for most people.

Its annoying, but you can get one of these (got mine* at £0.98, but its not going to break the bank at £1.43) and then follow these instructions and possibly use this cheap app to then use a cheap XXGb flash drive to host your music/video/etc.

* Works fine with a Samsung Galaxy S2, and I can back up my camera's pictures to the phone now  :2thumbsup:

Having had a quick look at storage usage in my S2 I'd be fine with 16GB (even when reduced by about 4GB for OS etc apparently) anyway. But that's interesting.

The HowTo points out that some games are clocking in at 1-2Gb which if multiple were played would quickly eat through 16Gb.

If you don't play games then its not a worry, although you'd want some way of getting films off the device if you purchased them as they too would quickly eat into storage space.

(Mainly thinking about the tablets in this context btw).

http://www.techradar.com/news/phone-and-communications/mobile-phones/google-nexus-4-vs-samsung-galaxy-s3-vs-iphone-5-1108375

Know it's first impressions but this really does look amazing for the price. Basically on a par with or better than iPhone 5 (and even S3) in virtually every aspect for just over half the cost.

Why the fuck they're comparing the launch of each product I have no idea as surely the "worst" is the best in this respect as it means more fact / less smoke and mirrors.
