Cleaning shoes?
November 25, 2009, 12:15:58 pm
Apart from the spit-rub technique before each ascent, are there any weird and wonderful ways of getting your shoes extra sticky?

If they are caked in mud after a long day, I usually use fairy liquid on the soles and that seems to add a little more stickiness than just water - is there anything better than fairy liquid?

Remeber reading in a US mag about someone using car bug and tar remover, which must be spirit based, not sure how good it would be for rubber though.

Thanks Chris - I will have look and see if I can find anything. It does sound a tad scary putting spirit based stuff on though, I would have thought it would react with the glue?

and probably th rubber - might dry it out or reduce to a gummy mess. Personally never use anything other than water and a scrubbing brush. Normally spit and skin is enough.

Ok - so can anyone tell me if fairy liquid would damage the rubber also? Surely it can't - hands that do dishes and all that  ;D

I'm after a sample of saliva from Natalija Gross to use on my boots.

I don't really care if it improves the friction

I'd pay good money to see you ask her to spit on your feet  ;D

I know these are tennies, but I would be scared to put my rock boots in the washing machine. Actually, I'm scared of putting clothes in my washing machine - it's got a life of it's own..

Rock boots are fine in the washing machine, as long as you set the temperature nice and low and don't use too much soapy powder stuff.  They come out super sticky.

word. put them in a pillowcase if you don't want to de-lace them or whatever.

Thanks guys/gals - but I don't have an issue with smelly feet  ;D
I just want to get the soles super sticky, the uppers are fine. I think I will stick with rubbing fairy liquid into them unless some brainy physicist tells me not to?

Trust me - my washing machine is mental, I wouldn't put my trainers in it...

You should bin the washing machine anyway and get a whicker basket. I chuck all my clothes in there, and if I leave it long enought they arrive fresh and ironed in my drawers.

I think our bedroom carpet must be made out of similar stuff, but the ironing function seems to be impaired.
