Where to download free Ebooks?
November 11, 2009, 08:21:51 am
Ok so I'm running out of books to read and need to get some more.

Usually I go to the usual torrent sites like m1n1n0va.0rg and th3p1rat3bay.0rg and also try places like ra1pdl1brary.c0m. I would love to join myan0nam0use.net but I haven't got an invite :(

At the mo there don't seem to be a lot going on, does anyone know of any good sources of Ebooks?

Any tips appreciated (please don't list torrent sites unless they are private and easy to join), thanks..

I could, but my motto is if you can get it for free - why buy it? :)

one day everything will be free, nobody will get paid and everything will be shit. i bet you can't wait. i don't know what your job is but if you were asked to do it for free i bet you wouldn't bother.

You are right I wouldn't do my job for free...

However - I believed the point of having a job was to pay for things that cost money? Have I been working all these years for the wrong reasons? I knew my mortgage was a joke :)

i'm talking about downloading films, books, music, apps etc. the people who make these things need to be paid otherwise the only people who will still make them are dillitantes and trustfunders and you will end up with a consequent drop in quality.

But people get funding from other sources..

Are you saying that you have bought every music track or album you own? Nobody has ever copied a CD for you?

Some free stuff can be better than paid - e.g. VLC versus Windows Media Player etc - how do they make their money if the software is free?

This is true but the current model of large record companies, etc is broken. Once the record companies have gone under (it's only a matter of time now) then it will be much better for artists.

I bought an album the other day because I knew that all the money was going directly to the artist, not lining the pockets of the record company who would then give the artist a measly share.

previous points noted. i  will have to think about this more deeply.

just a gut reaction to being skint at the moment and being in a position where i have to buy software/ pay for music and my returns from hours of work on films amounts to not very much.

For the record, I always pay for climbing films, I never download them - I realise it is a lot harder for you guys to make money as it is a fairly small market...and I know that the money is going to a good cause :)

Agreed - I wouldn't seek out a pirate copy of "Between The Trees" for example...

Project Guttenberg is primarily for works that are out of copyright (i.e. expired, at least in the US of A).

I do think the business model of music/images/film/etc. is looking at a major revision in the coming years.  How its actually going to work is anyone's guess, but I do like the idea of...

a) Most of the money going to the people doing the hardwork.
b) People paying what they think is appropriate for something.

...the main problem is, as was proven with L'Etranger, is that not everyone believes that quality deserves financial reward if offered in this manner.

Y'know, there much one cannot rip-off for free, especially if you've unpopular tastes or care about fidelity.
