ZIP IT YOU CAANT!
October 23, 2009, 08:36:06 am
The Mrs' TNF daysack thingy has a fucked zip. Could send it back via the retailer but they say it could take a week or two to turn it round and as she uses it every day that's a bit long.

Anyone know of anywhere in Sheffield that she could take it to get it fixed while waiting or in a couple of days etc?

Google is not helping and she's tried taking it to a normal cobbler type place without any joy.

Not Sheffield, but Chesterfield Sewing Services.

Don't know anyone I'm afraid (although I'd imagine my mum could fix such things, but she doesn't live in Sheffield).  I'd say keep an eye out for cards in supermarkets and/or news agents windows for someone offering sewing services.

Perhaps try the Sheffield Forums too, might be some bored housewife browsing who could fix it.

It's a shame POD (the man, not the brand) has jacked it in as he might have been able to help. You could try Equip who now own POD and RAB - I'm sure they've the means on site, although I've no idea if they'd do it.

Street wisdom has it that zips usually stop working beacuse the slider is worn. Unpick the end, replace slider (available from sewing shops/ internet etc), resew. That's what Angels told me to do anyway, and if anyone knows its her.

Nip into any independant womans clothes shop and they should be able to put you in touch with a seamstress. I have used someone in Grenoside for a few things but I think she may have moved away.

Ta everyone.

It's not the zip itself that's knacked it's the stitching that attaches it IIRC.

Have tried a local clothes alteration place but no joy due to the toughness of the material.

Nice one. I would have thought a proper cobblers would be able to sort it. Unfortunately most of em are shit chain type places now. Will look into that too.

Well the Mrs finally got round to going here and they fixed it with a bit of stitching for two quid.
