Pubs with B&B in the peak
October 16, 2009, 12:14:43 pm
Myself and the girlfriend are heading to the peak in November (by car) for a long weekend and I was after some beta on village pub type b&bs. We don't have an exact location in mind as It's very dependant on what accomadation is available. I'm really after personal recommendation from you guys that know the area well.

Requirements include:

Log fire
Good Ale
Good Food
Friendly atmosphere
Good access to (quality) bouldering

Any help would be most welcome. Payment in ale can be arranged.

Some friends stayed at River Cottage in Ashford in the Water earlier this year.
They said it was excellent, one of the best ever. Don't know if they have a log fire, but it is walking distance to the Bull's Head and the Ashford Arms (which might be worth a look at too).
Not cheap though at £100 per night.

Heard strange things about the Rutland Arms in Bakewell (not really a little pub anyway) - apparently the guy who runs it is a Basil Fawlty type of chap. Some people love it though

Although I've never stayed in a Peak pub, I've been to some which have excellent fires. So you don't have to compromise on that.

The Old Hall in Whitehough, Chinley.
Do a google search.

A fine selection of real ales, Budvar on tap, extensive wine list, fab food.

Good room rates & 20 mins to Staffs, 30 mins to Hathersage, 20 mins to the Lime.

If you do end up there let me know as its my local and I'll join you for a pint.

Cheers for the quality beta Lagers and FD. Waddage all round.

Missus is very excited by some of the options, which as we all know, is half the battle!

I'd add to the options ye olde mustard pots a bit west of Wharncliff, not as well located for the crags but I can say a top place for a dirty weekend away.

My Folks have stayed in the Yorkshire Bridge Inn just outside Bamford when they've been up to see us in Shef and rated it http://www.yorkshire-bridge.co.uk... Good food, fire (I think), good ale (black sheep and easy rider on me last visit), staff seemed nice enough, loads of folk in, 5ish minutes to Stanage plantation..

:D
