Crown of Thorns, Willersley

Can anyone shed light on the recent removal of the 2 pegs from this route?

Is someone on a ‘clean-up’ campaign? The pegs are not crucial, but without it would probably merit E5 rather than the current E4.

It’s rather odd, given that a few weeks ago they were in pretty good condition and not desperately in need of urgent replacement. The lower blade was one of mine - replaced about 10 years ago.

Rather, I suspect that trad thieves are casing the joint for another Matlock robbery, having seen musings about this in another forum.

If you know this route, it was retrobolted with a hard independent start in the early 90’s but the bolts were removed soon afterwards.

It looks to me like someone is eying it up as bolt fodder again.

It appears the direct start has been recently been claimed at E7. A good effort.
