Watched the first episode of 'House of Fools' on iPlayer. Can't recall laughing that much at a sitcom...ever.  I'll admit to being a fan of Vic and Bob since their Big Night Out days, so maybe more one for previous fans of them, however an impressive amount of gags and silliness crammed into 30min. Some genius lines, which I won't spoil and some great support from Matt 'Douglas Reynholm' Berry who is basically playing the same character.  Looks like they had a lot of fun making it which is always good for infectious humour. All in all a promising start, lets hope they keep it up.

Thanks for the heads up on House of Fools. Was worried that it would be a disaster as many other comdians have completely failed to make the sitcom format work. As you said, if they can maintain the standard of the first episode it will be fantastic.

I deliberately didn't watch this as if was shit it would forever tarnish them in my mind, in the way kevin eldon now is. Good to hear its worth a watch.

It is definitely not shit. I'm going to have to watch it again to catch all the lines I missed whilst laughing.

Last episode of Speed was epic. Featuring Sheffields very own Nick 'This is Sheffield' Hamilton. I want his job.

Really really enjoyed these too about the 'Welsh M1' aka the A470.
(though perhaps the first episode was slightly better than the first).

I could listen to Cerys all day.

I can remember my physics teacher at school (a man with very dry wit, an appearance like Adolf Hitler and mannerisms worthy of a monty python sketch) taking great pleasure in telling me the risk per capita of both rock climbing and all things fast and petrol powered, things he knew at the time I was very fond of!

I'll never be allowed to own a bike. Another useless fact is that the first wall I frequent was owned by a man who raced the TT. Looking him up on the site it seems he didn't do too badly either!

Just caught up on speed, loved it like a Northern Wolverine but with less fear.
Vic and Bob's sitcom - didn't want to watch this as I thought it would be a let down but after this thread's recommendations did and loved it.
Watched don't look down last night on catch up - was basically an hour of exposure pr0n and I felt uncomfortable watching it, almost like waiting for a car crash - however still enjoyed it.

Did you watch the first one? I fear they used all the best stuff in the pilot. Ep2 didn't do it for me either. Pity, had high hopes it was a classic series in the making.

Pilot gave me a few chuckles. Second episode was poor. Won't be watching a third

Possibly the best thing Vic and Bob ever did was a 1990's Channel 4 pilot called The Weekenders.  Despite being brilliant, and to the utter mystification of anyone who saw it (admittedly around three people), it was never commissioned.  Judging by the reception for the second episode of HoF perhaps it was a good call.  Maybe it takes them twenty years to gather sufficient lunacy for a 30 minute show.  Like second album syndrome: a young band puts their entire life so far into brilliant, angry debut - a near decade of adolescent frustration.  All that's left for the second album, is scraps of rejected songs from the first and a tune or two about how hard touring is!

Watched a box set of John From Cincinnati while in Spain this month. It was really great, such a shame it didn't get another series (apparently it baffled Americans when it was first shown - maybe a recommendation in itself), though it does kind of work as a story through the series, so I suppose it could have been ruined by another series. Kem Nunn (who wrote Tapping the Source among other things) wrote on it with David Milch (Deadwood which I've not seen). I've read and enjoyed Tapping the Source and Tijuana Straits, and he really brings the same lyrical and slightly mythical quality to the writing on the show as well.

It really is an odd show, and there are some things which never totally make sense, but the script is awesome, and sometimes it's good to have something original which is unpolished but absorbing.
