Can any of you good people share an opinion on what living in Lyon would be like from a climber's perspective?  A quick look at the "Last Minute Trip" thread suggests that there's some world class route climbing within a roughly 200km radius, but what's the bouldering like?  Any other thoughts would be appreciated?

There's a topo "escalades autour de Lyon" which has about 20 crags in. None are really close to Lyon, and none are major. Here's the map

The closest bouldering is I think at Yzeron, granite boulders hidden in a wood (well hidden - I went without any kind of map and couldn't find them!) but that's about half an hour or so to the east.

Lyon's not far from the crags of the Drome, and not that far from proper mountains, and the mountain and road biking is good, but I don't think it rivals Aix, Marseille or Grenoble for climbing (not that I've lived in any of those places)

I just got back froma long weekend in grenoble, not much bouldering but the route climbing is second to none, cliffs and routes everywere, good biking, and grenoble itself is a wonderfull city, and that saying something, (i hate cities)

I seem to remeber it being under an hour from lyon, so well worth the trip, depends on what part of lyon you will be at but I reccon you could get to some of the areas in a bout 30/40 minutes drive

Nice, many thanks for the info.  There's an interesting job at the Uni there that I'm thinking of applying for - still a long way from actually moving there though.  Good to know there's stuff to do.
