had some jungle formula but wasnt really doin the trick,, anyone know a good reppellent?

I picked up some 99.999% deet in the states a couple of years ago. A couple of sprays of its oily evilness does the job. I find a spray/rub through my hair usually does a good job of keeping them away from my face\head

Aparently the newer formula doesn't have the same ingredients that deter midges. I think it's shit anyway. Only way it works for me is if you put enough on to get an oily layer which they drown in, but don't bite you. Still swarm around you though.

I was going to suggest that yesterday because I'd heard that Vitamin B12 acts as a good midge repellent.

After a cursory literature search I stumbled across this article as the most pertinent from the American Journal of the American Mosquito Control Association...

Ives et al (2005) Testing Vitamin B as a home remedy against mosquitoes 21:213-217 (see Reference 42)

Can only access the abstract, but it says that whilst there was "significant" variation between individuals (which was reproducible) overall there was no net effect on reducing attractiveness to mosquitoes from vitamin B.

Similarly the following article found no benefit to using Vitamin B1

Khan AA, Maibach HI, Strauss WG, Fenley WR. (1969) Vitamin B1 is not a systemic mosquito repellent in man. Trans St Johns Hosp Dermatol Soc. 55:99-102.

There are also some articles with similar conclusions in the BMJ's Clinical Evidence which I can't access.

That said marmite is lush so munch away.

Yeah, it took (made smeary) the lacquer off my bike helmet when I sprayed some on it by accident.. but it does work. You just have to remember to spray on only a tiny amount rather than heaps of the stuff..

Been in the supermarkets for a while, think I got some from Asda.

The Champagne marmite they do around valentine's day is quite nice too.  Inadvertently got a muslim friend of mine to try some then realised it contains something like 0.02% of real champagne to flavour/scent it, and therefore alcohol too

Thankfully not, but he didn't like the marmite, too strong for him as he's Australian and was bought up on wussy Vegemite.

I found vegemite next to shoe polish in a US supermarket once. Either they had no idea what it was, or someone did know, but was aware how far inferior a product it is and thought that was all it was good for.
