Wharncliffe Woods this weekend
June 19, 2009, 09:02:50 am
Thinking about heading up to Wharncliffe sometime this weekend to try out the red xc route (my knackered hip prevents me running so I'm getting the bike out). I've downloaded the route map but just wondered if the route is sign posted?

If anyone is up for a bit of xc at Wharncliffe this weekend let me know. I'm thinking Sunday will be the best for me.

It was singposted, then it wasnt, then it was, then it wasnt again.....

We have some half baked plan for Sunday morn, but if that falls apart will be d/h in wharners (maybe) on sunday

Just got back and really enjoyed the red xc route. Got a little lost on the way back to the car park but all in all can't complain.

With some luck I'll be up there again next weekend.

Did you make it up there in the end? Didn't seem busy on the DH sections.

we did, got slaped around a bit by Yoh mamma, on of the new courses. Also tried a new course right past the waterfall, without a doubt the rockiest tek fest ive ever been on!

Anyone up for some xc at Wharncliffe on Sunday morning? I'll probably be getting there for around 10am. Could be tempted to try a bit of dh too. :bounce:

Might be up on Sunday, probably on the big bike as my DH has become well rusty.

What bike are you using Plattsy? Just wondering how it would fare on the DH courses....you don't need a big bike of course, even Peaty's drop in Greno is reputed to have been done on a hardtail but it helps to have something that won't spit you over the bars at the first oppurtunity.

Currently rolling a spitting, bucking bronco Specialised Hardrock which I guess is pretty shit spec wise.

Don't mind steep stuff too much. Jumps and drop offs are something else though. So if there's usually a way round them that'll be the way for me.

Me again. Planning on heading up to Wharncliffe again this weekend. Probably Sunday morning. Around 10am. The forecast suggest a little bit of rain but it shouldn't be too bad. XC for me only I'm afraid. Shit bike and only one brake at the moment.

Weather forecast looks ok for Sunday so, yep you guessed it, I'll be heading up to Wharncliffe for some XC. Probably get there around 10am and stick around for a couple of hours.

Anyone fancy it?

Great session up Wharncliffe this morning. Very muddy, slippery and surprisingly quiet.

Ah, thought you meant somebody had been building on the XC track, not just forestry stuff. Shame the Forestry Commission at Wharncliffe are useless mtb haters.

Yeah, Sorry for the misunderstanding. Most of it seems ok and passable.

see gravity slaves...

the FE have now not only not delivered on the DH plans... but have carved up the new XC course.

rumours abound that there is something in the offing... but fuck it.. build what you want and where, there are no national MTB support groups now conversant with the wharncliffe FE management, it's all been lies...
