Do you like climbing?
Do you like partying?
Do you like doing things for a great cause?
If the answer to any of these things is yes, then you are surely going to love Club Uprising.

Coming to the Mash House in Edinburgh on Saturday 28th February, a club-night in aid of Urban Uprising, a charity dedicated to funding climbing and educational programmes for youngsters in deprived areas. Entry will be £7 on the door and all proceeds will go directly to Urban Uprising. The event has very kindly been sponsored by Alien Rock, Hot Aches Productions and TCA Glasgow.

As a clubbing event put on by members of the local climbing community, this will be an excellent chance to socialise with climbers and adventurers from across the country and to fundraise for Urban Uprising. The event is the brainchild of Niall McNair and Mike Mullins (who also did the superb media and poster designs), Mullins takes up the story:

“We had the idea on a night out, of putting on a music night for climbers and friends. We both miss good breaks clubs and thought it would be a great reason to ask Will Atkinson to come and play for us. But we hummed and ahhed about it for six months and it wasn’t until Urban Uprising started up last summer that we then realised we had the perfect excuse for organising an event!”

The Mash House is tucked away in the Old Town part of Edinburgh and will provide a perfect venue for such an event, boasting a load and clear soundsystem in the dancefloor area. There is also a separate, spacious and salubrious bar area, perfect for demonstrating those crux moves of the latest project. During the course of the night there will be an eclectic roster of musical styles from funk and house to full on breakbeat; the two DJs on the night, have between them a huge range of experience in beat-smithing.

Swank ‘n’ Jams, a local climber and resident DJ at Balkanarama and Eden Festival, is a regular at the Kelburn Garden Party and other eclectic clubs across Edinburgh. Having warmed up for a diverse selection of artists from Quantic to The Nextmen, expect an eclectic mix of disco, house and tropical bass.

Will Atkinson needs no introduction to the central belt climbing scene, having repeated and added many hard boulder problems to Dumbarton Rock and making history by becoming the first to climb Requiem E8 ground-up. Prior to moving to Glasgow in 2008, Will was resident DJ at the popular club night Grounded in Sheffield and played alongside luminaries of the breakbeat scene including Lee Coombs, The Drumattic Twins and Adam Freeland. Will has promised us, for his set, to revisit many of the classic tunes from this era and to drop in some old school bangers for those of a nostalgic bent.

Stuart Green, founder of Urban Uprising has this to say about the night:

“This is a fantastic event being organised, both for climbers and non-climbers alike, and the first of what sure to be an annual night in aid of Urban Uprising. It will certainly be more fun than a coffee morning or doing a marathon. Although, you might feel like you’ve run one afterwards...”

The final words come from Urban Uprising Ambassador Niall McNair:

“The initial response to our first announcement of the event was so positive and favourable that we immediately booked a larger venue, going from a 100 to 300 capacity place. There are so many folks already promising to come from all corners of the UK, from London and Sheffield to Glasgow and Aberdeen that this has gone beyond being a local fund-raiser. I can therefore promise a friendly crowd and the music will get everyone dancing in no time at all. The best thing about the night is that thanks to our sponsors’ input, ALL the cash from the entry fee will be going directly to Urban Uprising and the project that they support in Rio de Janiero: for every person through the door this will equate to a young person getting to experience climbing on rock. Come for a boogie and help to get kids climbing!”

Club Uprising @ Mash House, 37 Guthrie Street, Edinburgh, EH1 1JG.

Only a week away now, really looking forward to it  ;D

All the Urban Uprising guys have put a lot of time amd effort into organising this event so it would be great to see a packed out dance floor  :dance1:

I've been asked to play a breaks set so I've been digging out all the breaks classics on vinyl. Below is a link of an old breaks mix of mine so you'll get an idea of what I'll be playing later on in the night.

Get down for a a few beers and a dance, and it's all for a good cause, with all the money taken on the night going to http://urbanuprising.co.uk/
