Wild swimming spots
July 02, 2009, 04:10:30 pm
Had a pleasant dip at Baslow yesterday evening and I was wondering where else one could go for a wild swim in the Peak?

Good topic!

Slippery Stones up beyond Ladybower reservoir is popular.

Nice spot if you follow the river up the Alport Valley, near some waterfalls and a nice picnic spot (if there aren't too many midges!).

There was a brilliant mini reservoir just up from the road just before you get to Gardoms parking spot. Unfortunately I cycled past a while ago and its been drained!
Not that I would suggest it but jumping from the bridge next to the Ladybower Inn, left hand side of the road(bamford direction) 3rd arch from end I think.......start on opposite side of road, sprint and vault wall.....not that i would do something so stupid

Bunch of yoofs jumping off the bridge at the bottom of Froggart hill on Wednesday evening, so presumably there aren't any large submerged branches wedged up against the bridge at the moment.

There were two bikini-clad lasses on the parapet last night. Good job Paul B's away, its an accident blackspot as it is.

Fiend 2 once went swimming in there to check it was clear to jump in. He managed to disturb a vast quantity of leaf mulch and marsh gas at the bottom, the stench of bog was truly fantastic. Go for it Sloper!

A couple of excellents bits of 'wild' swimming recently.

Two lovely dips in Baltic a couple of weeks ago - bracing but perfectly fine, managed a very lovely 20-30 minutes each time and was left with a great all day glow on both occasions. This one was a bit of an ambition met.

Today, somewhat surprisingly, very good session in the Seine at Thomery, just east of Font, where it is still pretty bloody big and wide. Learnt a valuable lesson. Thought I'd sensibly set off upstream and as it all seemed very pleasant I went a ways - good twenty minutes in the water. As soon as I turned round it became obvious I'd been going downstream - getting back to my starting point was pretty hard work and I feel quite bushed now. Lovely all the same.

Wat er fool you are Tomtom. There was a pool of puns you could have used there but your stream of conciousness obviously ignored them.

I'm drowning under the weight of expectation to produce a watertight stream of puns.

I can see why some people don't like them, they're very much (sea)horses for (water)courses.
