Where to go in Ticino?
June 30, 2009, 11:19:37 pm
Can anyone recommend me a good crag which is rich in classics of V5/V6 grade. Accessibility without a car important. Cheers

COmputer says no!

The only place that I know of that would be even remotely possible by pubic transport would be Cresciano and thats certainly not classic at that grade range, and I would expect its 35degrees there at the moment. Chironico would be epic by public transport, as would Brione. And besides, theres not really much at that level (imho) at either.

Erm. Go to font!

Ben forgot to mention Magic Wood.  Is this in Ticino?  Probably not, but it is Swiss

You can get there on public transport
There's camping within walking distance
The weather will be better for bouldering than most places in Europe
The grades are very soft especially Jack the Chipper which is more like 7a that 7c!

Try and get hold of the bouldering guides here: http://www.crescianoboulder.ch/

Then you have three super areas to choose from: Cresciano, Chironico or Gottardo.

Chironico is not too bad by public transport: http://map.search.ch/chironico see bus stop icon for timetable.

Magic wood is close to here: http://map.search.ch/farera see bus stop sign for timetable - but is not Tessin.

And the weather forecast: http://www.meteoschweiz.admin.ch/web/de/wetter/detailprognose/lokalprognose.html?language=de&plz=Chironico

Hope that helps?

No its not. He said in Ticino.

Its all subjective. I thought this was certainly harder than 7a. Just wish I could be as good as you.

chironico, weather apart, could be very doable on public transport. you can get fairly close by train (i think to faido) and then there's a bus service that takes you to chironico.

At the other bit says that it doesn't matter as it's still in Swiss and a better bet vis a transport/conditions

Haven't tried Jack the Chipper but if you wanna try a 'solid' magic 7c check out Son of a Gun, is fuckin nails.

no he didn't. not even if he's the strong stick that came up the other wk. he may have campussed all the moves except the first, unless of course he's got 3 inch long legs

I seem to remember the first move being the crux on this? I think the rocks underneath have been moved since it was first done making it harder than the original way.
