The formula 1 is about £15 per night for a room, 3 beds but enough floor space for a couple more. The one nearest to font is in Moret-sur-Loing, SW of the fontainbleua town, don't remember there being a bar nearby tho.
If you can get a gite they are da bomb but will work out more expensive, unless you can get a late deal. I guess it'll be pot luck if/where you can get one, but you could try ringing gites de france with a road map on hand (they speak english and are very helpful - 01.60.39.60.39 is the font office). The two we've had have been in the middle of nowhere tho  :(

F1 is piss cheap and does the job and is quite comfortable....until you come to cook which means cooking outside somewhere. also if the cleaning staff find a stove in your room they will confiscate it!

gites are nomally rented saturday-saturday, so if you're going for 4 nights its pretty mucha  non-starter - however ring the gite office anyway and they might be able to swing something as its low season, or email the gite websites for seine-et-marne (font) and essonne (trois pignons) departments.

the campsite is closed in winter i think so this is your only options - although i think theres a F1style Etap hotel thing somewhere else nearby.

word to dat - also the gite 'season' don't start till March 1st so getting something till then might be a struggle.

Formula 1s are OK, even though we saw some businessman looking geezer escorting a crackho-looking bird out when we checked in. Hope they weren't bonin in the bed I was in.

Yep, Etap is on the north side of Font town, just near the railway station (almost directly opposite where you turn off the road to get up to Calvaire and those places).  Bit of a drag to walk into town itself, but there are bars and stuff nearby.  Cheap'n'cheerful - phone number is 0033164234400 - they speak english.

Sam and Danny aren't there.

The full posse (I think) are:

Chris, Si, Barnsey, Spidey, Nigel and Pete.

Apparently the big Llanberis/Sheffield party had great conditions.

Sounds to me like they've had bag conditions, Chris had mint conditions last year.

Have they got owt decent done? I texted Pete but no reply yet...

Slightly off this topic, but on the same lines:

I'm thinking of going to Font on 24th March for a week, which is 2 weeks before the easter weekend.  How busy does anyone reckon it'll be?  Will I miss all the easter crowd?

Pissed down the whole time, did fuck all and consequently have now decided to give up climbing (well maybe!). Good luck to anyone who risks it, you'll need it!

I just got back last night. The weather over the weekend is supposed to be pretty good. Had a really good day yesterday in Bas Cuvier.

I wouldn't bother Adam that place seeps, best quickdrying places are, 95.2, Gorge aux chats, apremont, cuviers not bad actually, rempart, elephant. Pete was looking good but didn't get the chance to beast it really, he pissed everything he tried.

Well, we had awesome day today and an ok one yesterday. Went to 95,2 yesterday. Couple of 7a's and a 7b called Miss KBG. Today went to Apremont and ticked loads of classics. Fleur de Rhum. Easiest 7b+ in the forest. Think it gets 7b now... Cool arete which goes at 7a+ sitting and 7a starting from arete. Dont know name. Hyperplomb, cool but scarey. Blue skys, sun and top friction! Still got spanked on one 6c though. Had about 15 goes and still couldnt do it!

Watching Stephen Denys crusing an 8b eliminate was awe inspiring!

Yup, wouldmt argue with 7a either!  A load of good frenchies where trying it and couldnt touch it, yet were crusing other hard stuff. Maybe they cant climb over hanging crimps! I checked a few guides and its 7b in the new english one and 7a+ on the website. Not sure where they got 7b+ from...

Not tried the other one. Well, i dont think so anyway
