Anything by Bob Dylan covered by someone else is better than the original according to my mate.

Will add in another cover by the man Johnny Cash - Neil Diamonds "Solitary Man" - the three American Recordings albums that I so far own have all been rather excellent overall. Well worth checking out.

your mate is an ignorant fuckwit.  ;)

witness the absolute tosh put out by GnR, Avril Lavine (god help us), peter paul and mary etc etc etc

The Hendrix track is sweet though.

On topic - this by the Gourds blows snoop out the water:

While looking for this

I found this

The first one is from Darlo in 1991 so I wasn't there but I saw the same tour at the Nelson Mandela Building along with others from here (FatBoySlimFast I am sure and maybe Big Al, plus of course Patta and good old Ade!!). The second clip I was also there, I think with Patta and Daley & Kate - not so good but thegig was good fun - All I Want For Christmas Is a Dubla Prague Away Kit. Happy times both of them  ;D

Sorry for the hijack but anyone remember seeing Nirvana, Mudhoney, Tad and some other randoms at Manc Poly back in the day (not the gig but a mere taster for you)

Hippy Martin, The Bear, Trev, FatBoy, me, Big Al, Lucky Jez. Probably Patta and Ade

I was driving and we got stopped in Glossop on the way back. I told the coppers the truth ie 18 people in the back of the transit while I was breathalysed. Martin and FatBoy in the front seat telling the other copper no one in the back. Pockets being emptied at a very fast rate. Again, happy days. And no fucking MOT, thanks Homf!!

I saw Tad, Mudhoney and Sonic Youth in Manc with Big Al, Fatboy and I'm sure others. Are you sure that wasn't the one. I remember we (me and pretty much everyone you list) saw Nirvana in Sheff. Now I'm reduced to sitting outside the same students union on Oxford Rd while my son and his mates watch the Misfits

I remember seeing Mudhoney in Manchester but can't remember any of the other lineup.

Back to cover versions, I've just downloaded Nouvelle Vague's latest album. More of the same cutesy nonsense but it has a certain charm and this time around they've included some of the original artists.

Hmmm, I'm not so sure - Jackson's Billie Jean is one of the greatest pop records of all time. An interesting cover but not a better one imo.

Gotta agree with Bubbs there, but I'm biased by thinking M. Brown solo is a bit of a dick.
With Hurt, I think the NiN version is as good as Johnny Cash but just in a very different style.  Obviously the song meant something different to each of them.

Great as Soft Cell's version is, it was about 20 years late to be the original (and best)

Oh please!   That Stevie Ray Vaughan version of Voodoo Child is utter nonsense besides Jimmy's.

Here's one for you to argue about

I like Kraftwerk, but sonically this is much more exciting than the original

Have to agree with Houd on these. Was going to pick out the first two in particular. That Gary Jules cover is muck in comparison to the TFF original and how can you improve on Take On Me? You can't so leave it alone.

Good thread though.  :)

Heard this the other day. The Kelly Clarkson cover fits the bill.

Not having any sound at work I don't know if this is the right thing or not, but it should be.
