There's a place in between Calais and Swizerland called Fontainebleau that is worth stopping off at.

Lakes-wise there's lots of class stuff, but there can be a fair bit of travelling. St Bees, Eskdale (fisherground and upper), Cobble etc See Greg's site for perusal.
