After a near miss  involving a gamekeeper, a rifle with a silencer and a crowd of boulderers  :o , and then some fruitless and pointless negotiations with His Nibs's underlings, all bouldering at Heckley is now banned. No great loss, IMHO - but it did stay dry in westerly gale driven rain. For the record the guy with the gun was ok when he realised he hadn't actually shot anyone and had calmed down.

WTF?  He was worried he might have shot someone?  Why the hell did he point the gun in their direction and pull the trigger????

Worth notifying the BMC if you haven't done so already.

We used to visit Heckley regularly as it's the best rained off consolation choice on the way home from many crags, if you don't want to drive back up to Back Bowden or Kyloe In. It stays dry in many weather conditions, not just a westerly gale.

Nah, he was just in the woods shooting and hadn't been aware that the lads were in there bouldering, he got a shock because he could easily have been shooting cragwards to make sure that stay bullets didn't go anywhere. Once he'd had a chat and knew where everyone was he was happy to let the lads carry on bouldering, but gave the contact details for head gamekeepers etc.
