Yes, I'm not sure theyve twigged that running a football club is not quite the same as a marine generator business...

Raciism in Football:

Come on then M. Platini - explain how Ukraine was awarded the competiton?

http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/international/alex-oxladechamberlains-family-to-stay-away-from-euro-2012-due-to-racism-concerns-7786090.html

Quote
Oxlade-Chamberlain, 18, is the youngest member of the squad and his father Mark Chamberlain is a former England international himself who won eight caps for his country in the 1980s. However, the Chamberlains, like the family of Theo Walcott, have decided not to travel to watch England's three group games – two in Donetsk and one in Kiev – in the light of recent warnings from the Foreign Office.

Will this create an easy out for any players angling for a move?

Also an easy "out" for a club that wants to divest itself of a player on a pricey long-term contract.  There will be the opportunity for similar to when Chelsea used Mutu's positive cocaine test to get rid and sue him for the transfer fee (I reckon if they had valued him more it would have been support and counseling).

That said, it strikes me as a nice idea but a non-starter in practical terms.  If the Suarez/Evra case is any guide, it seems almost impossible to unequivocally prove racism - especially where different languages and cultures are involved.  It's more of a crime of intent than strict liability.  And can you imagine any club would allow itself to lose a valuable player when there's any room at all for legal doubt.  Besides, is being "sacked" actually a punishment for a player?  Only if they are prevented from immediately resigning for a different club on a lucrative Bosman.

England squad has been announced http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/18232535
Quote
Goalkeepers: 1. Joe Hart (Manchester City), 13. Robert Green (West Ham), 23. Jack Butland (Birmingham City).

Defenders: 12. Leighton Baines (Everton), 5. Gary Cahill (Chelsea), 3. Ashley Cole (Chelsea), 2. Glen Johnson (Liverpool), 14. Phil Jones (Manchester United), 15. Joleon Lescott (Manchester City), 6. John Terry (Chelsea), 18. Phil Jagielka (Everton).

Midfielders: 19. Stewart Downing (Liverpool), 4. Steven Gerrard (Liverpool), 8. Frank Lampard (Chelsea), 16. James Milner (Manchester City), 20. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (Arsenal), 17. Scott Parker (Tottenham), 7. Theo Walcott (Arsenal), 11. Ashley Young (Manchester United).

Forwards: 9. Andy Carroll (Liverpool), 21. Jermain Defoe (Tottenham), 10. Wayne Rooney (Manchester United), 22. Danny Welbeck (Manchester United).

We could potentially have a hungry youthfull midfield of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Theo Walcott, Ashley Young with Scott Parker sat behind as a holding player.
what we will get is:
Stewart Downing, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard and James Milner looking and old and defensive ...

Hodgson has obviously decided to give the old guard one last chance but surely, in a tournament nobody gives us any chance whatsoever of winning, it would have been the perfect opportunity to ditch them and start building a team for the next World Cup? Never mind eh.

Good to see Chelsea's plan for breaking even and complying with the FPP rules is well on track.

"Mario Balotelli has threatened to walk off the pitch if he is racially abused at Euro 2012 and said he would 'kill' anyone who dares to throw a banana at him" this raises fears that John Terry may miss the later stages of the competition
