Totally unmarked speed camera van was in lay-by on the A621 between Baslow and Owler Bar on Monday. Luckily I was stuck behind a caravan at the time.

Van was a completely plain dark green transit sized thing so pretty unobtrusive and sneaky.

They had 2 marked cars elsewhere on the road too, obviously having a bit of a crackdown so be careful.

That's sneaky! That's a new place too, thanks for the heads up. I'll mentally add it to the possible places they might be.

Sounds like the same one that is often on the Snake Pass.

Looks like an old builder's van with tinted back windows?

Thats a common spot for them to sit (marked or not).

It was an old Merc Sprinter / Renault Trafic or very similar shape. When I passed it there was a big marked Police SUV type thingy giving a ticket to a Porsche driver so I assume they were working together.

You've almost got to expect it on a hot BH weekend i guess

I thought that all speed camera vans had to have markings of some sort to let you know it was thre to catch speeding drivers otherwise you could contest any speeding fines? But perhaps that's just an urban myth. Anybody know?

I believe that "Safety Camera Partnership" vans have to be well marked, but that the Feds themselves can be a bit more devious.

Judging by the fact that this van seemed to be operating alongside 2 marked cars I think that it was a police operated van rather than a safety camera partnership one so could be unmarked.

No its on the undulating moor bit before the long down hill into a long easy right-hand bend.

Virtually all of Derbyshire country roads are 50mph now

Bad move in my mind, its only going to result in more accidents as some people get pissed off stuck behind the slow coaches who insist on staying 10mph under the speed-limit and over-take in a dangerous manner.

basically if you're driving through stoney don't put your foot down till you're past the layby.
