Anyone know if much is climbable out there or just the usual couple of snowproof things?

I was out this afternoon. Quite a bit of climbable stuff but a lot of snow about too, wasnt too melty yet and tomorrow looks chilly so should be ok.

Gardoms was quite clear of snow and dry yesterday, although I couldn't actually hold on to anything.

On another note I've heard the road going down past Higgar to Hathersage Road is really icy, friend with 4x4 and winter tyres only just made it down.

I drove down it yesterday late afternoon. Ice and snow most of the way. There did seem to be grit/salt in some places.

It wasn't as slippery as the hill by Burbage bridge (heading towards Ringing low)

Was walking today but stopped to pat the rock, looked like lots dry in Burbage Valley.

I was very restrained and didn't go spectate at whoever was working on Voyager.

Anyone out today?
Looks like the weather will be similar tomorrow so just wondering if much was dry today?  Probably thinking of heading to burbage, stanage or curbar area.

Ran up to Oxstones at lunch - the cloud/mist/fog was down and maybe 10m visibility so I'd imagine similar at Burbage. Possible that Stanage was above any mist, if that's what it was, but visibility was too bad to make any judgement.

Roads and walls were dry when I went out this afternoon. My spy on the other side said the ‘Dry mist’ and Cloud lifted and cleared at Mam Tor, and wall to wall sunshine the other side of Winnats. Cool NE wind.
I dare say there will be dry rock this side tomorrow but it looks like it will be better out West again, depending how willing you are to stretch the “local area” tag

Thanks for the info.

That sounds promising, it was the rare dry mist I was hoping for and MWIS sounds like it'll be better tomorrow than today.

Fingers crossed I guess.

Top bilberry-picking conditions at Burbage South Edge yesterday.

Also humid and insect-y, so rubbish for anyone wanting to climb hard, but excellent for anyone wanting to do very easy mileage interspersed with stuffing their face with bilberries.

Love that this thread I started on a whim 12 years ago (because I was going to be driving over to Sheffield from Merseyside) is now at 110 pages.

In Sheffield there's lots of melty snow about. Tricky conditions tomorrow I reckon, would want to find somewhere that's not gonna suffer from run off.

Pretty epic wind blown snow on the road out to Burbage from Sheffield. Barely ok to the Ox stones parking, lots of stuck cars past there. I don't think I'd bother with anything in the Burbage valley although could be surprised! We walked out to Burbage North in the afternoon and the drifts were pretty deep. Nothing we saw on the first half of the edge or so was climbable.

Other edges may differ! It did seem to mainly be driven by the drifts, so more sheltered places may be better. No guarantees!

Cheers Carl, looking unpromising for sure, not even convinced by South East grit cos obviously the storm was raking down the East of the Pennines and the Wirksworth webcam was snowy this morning.

FWIW bone dry in South Manc today, good nick on the roads  ::) ::)

I sent my mate who lives near Darley Dale a message this morning asking if they’d had snow- they had and reckons there was a period in the early hours where it rained on top of it before it refroze, hence the hill he lives on is like a sloping ice rink.

Wirksworth had a couple of inches of snow that settled on top of already wet ground on Friday night. Then a tiny bit of rain yesterday morning that didn't seem to affect anything. Any roads that get any volume of traffic were almost completely snow free by yesterday evening. I didn't test any tiny country lanes but the routes to Cromford and over Middleton were fine.

There's still a couple of inches of snow on any ground that hasn't been cleared or been in the sun.

The pavements around Wirksworth are lethal now it's all refrozen.

Didn't check any grit, I went for the safe option of the lime yesterday.

If anyone's thinking of heading out for a last climb of 2021 it's still pretty damp out there.

Trackside was soaked
Burb North / Stanage looked better from the road, but not enough to make me want to stop and get out.

There's a bit of a breeze about so you might get lucky later on....

Anyone able to hazard a guess if river of life or Salle goose would be dry tmrw? I've been so many time and they've been sleeping and I don't want another disappointing trip.
