Report from TT:

Quote
I’d suggest nothing is dry - we hunted around yesterday afternoon for dry rock - and the seasoned Sheffield climbers I were with said they’d never seen it that wet. Water seeping from grit where it never does... maybe later on this afternoon some spots might dry but there’s so much water about. Lots of flooding - water running across the roads.

Just driven through the Peak District , safe to say it’s grim. Maybe a day for scrambling up easy boulder problems in trainers 3rd rock style?
Otherwise west is best

Any speculation on Stanton / Rowtor tomorrow? The more exposed / SW-facing bits anyway...

Be alright I reckon on existed bits, especially by afternoon. Wind picking up slightly, humidity dropping so better drying conditions than today. Looks like s bit of overnight rain but not much down there.

Avoiding the bits that don’t exist is solid advice for any venue!

Still think it'll dry on southern exposed and existing edges this afternoon

Are you expecting major geological activity and currently non-existing edges appearing before then?

Stanton mostly dank.

Cliff top boulder bone dry and perfect conditions.....for some completely different sort of climbing that doesn't involve pulling hard on positive holds. Absolutely bitter in the wind. Didn't warm-up at all on the journey home and had 20 minutes in an 85'C sauna to defrost.

The right choice of venue in that area - existing or otherwise - could be good tomorrow.

This was 1600 yesterday https://photos.app.goo.gl/wW2VL7aRFXiWyPCy9 (bamford walk in, stanage popular and burbage bridge parking respectively)

Not sure what the forecast is like but it'll need a good bit of wind to clear it up (and not much knocking around sheffield at the mo).

Went to Gardoms this afternoon (son’s idea). Marks Roof soaking. Soft on the G not much better. Checked out Suavito. Also wet. It’s the moisture in the air that’s truly fucking everything up. Ground sodden too. And I re-tweaked my back helping one of the dogs over a stile. Went for some retail therapy to buy a pair of Alpkit jeans but they don’t fit. Thick clag driving past Stanage. Everything’s gone to ratshit. Glass of gin and hot bath now. There’d better be enough hot water..

Thanks for the update Simon. I propose a vote of no confidence in the grit caller

TBF Gardoms North after a long period of clart without a good W-NWer is a terrible idea. Sack Sharklet instead of the caller. Hope the dogs had a nice stroll.

On arrival at crag:

Me “Perhaps you’ll listen to me from now on”

Ben “Probably not”

Where should I go tomorrow in the Peak which will have at least some shelter from the hurricane winds forecast...? Still looks a safer bet than Sunday.

Hard one to call this WE. Forecast looks well unreliable for Sat - sun looks drier. One of those...
