Obviously the colour is the most important thing - sod everything else.

yes - needs to be a nice shade of pink... :)

P.S. The Juliana is the best women's specific design bike I've ridden.  But then I do like single pivots.  And it's also one of the lightest.

And most flickable.  :ang:

Second hand XS Juliana here:

http://www.singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/fs-santa-cruz-juliana-xs

Could be well worth a look if you haven't sorted something already.

Excellent find there TLR!

I havn't as yet found a bike (time limits mean it's going slowly).

Does anyone know of anywhere in London that stocks the Santa Cruz Julianne ?  Would like to try one out to see if the sizing is right before thinking of buying.

Is it alright to piggy back this thread with my own new MTB request?

I've got £650 to spend on this site: http://tinyurl.com/prguoe but will go to £700.

I'm after a hardtail for general XC in the peak and for farting around on.

I'm drawn to the £629:   GT Avalanche 1.0 Disc 2009
http://www.wheelies.co.uk/products-Avalanche-1.0-Disc-2009_21043.htm

partly as it looks fly and partly as it seems to have decent bits and bobs as well as a decent frame.

I know chuff all about bikes so any advice will be greatly received.

Well, you could say that the demo went really well, or really badly.

It was a small and fitted nearly perfectly, worked out the dimension differences to the XS and the XS would be perfect

BUT

I really really like it now, the seller on singletrackworld has had quite a few enquiries, so the chance of me getting it are slim  :'(

so trying not to get my hopes up (doesn't happen very often a bike so small being up for resale).

Oh well, will have to see how it goes.

Good luck.

Just be a bit persistent about it, you'd be amazed how many people make enquiries about things on Singletrackworld and then are never heard from again. Let the seller know that you are really serious and have the cash waiting.

I'll keep my eyes open for any other XS full suspension bikes for you - I spend far too much time on MTB classifieds websites!

In the inexplicable absence of the inimitable Fatdoc, may I suggest that you also look at the Genesis. Both it and the GT would be great bikes though.

Cheers tlr. I'd discounted the Genesis as it was a brand I'd never heard of but I'll check it out now. Is it worth the extra money (£70)?

Is it wrong to be swayed by colour look? The GT looks fly though it'll look less fly after a few stacks!

The 3 main differences are that the the Genesis is steel, the GT is Alu, the Genesis has full Deore kit the GT uses some Tektro parts and the Genesis has Rockshox forks whereas the GT has Suntour.

Personally I’d get the Genesis and I’d say it was easily worth £70 more – but it is a pretty personal thing, especially the whole steel vs aluminium thing. You really need to ride both and see what you prefer and what fits.

Genesis is a newish British based company. More details http://www.genesisbikes.co.uk/ and some reviews too.

genesis and ridgeback are brands under madison, part of the h young group

they offer both the steel framed cycles - altitude, and the aluminium framed cycles - core, which have received good reviews in the press.

their initial offerings in 2006/7 were extraordinarily good value; whereas now the frame materials, for steel say, have been de-specified from 725 down to 520, 853 still reserved for top end machines, but prices have dramatically risen.

Awesome, you'll love it. I've got a Superlight, which is the blokes Julianna, and its brilliant. I've had it for years and can't bring myself to get rid of it.

Most probably...

Single pivot... Nice idea in 1999

Time Moves on.....

Though others on here are perhaps not so vitriolic.. Anyone on here that jumps / does drops gave up single pivots as soon as they could...
