BB, that's an insane tale! Have small Bull Sharks been caught in the area before?

Small ones don't seem to get caught. Big ones are spotted taking pelicans/ducks and bumping kayaks every now and then. I've never spoken to anyone who actively fishes for them although New South Wales fisheries do:

http://www.abc.net.au/tv/programs/sharkharbour.htm

had a pesky heron for company all afternoon trying to steal fish off the hook!

We get pelicans and cormorants doing that over here. We just feed the cormorants 2 or 3 small snapper and they disappear to sleep it off. The pelicans, however, are never full and you have to pass close to another fishing boat to lose them. Causes all sorts of insults to be hurled at you from the occupants, but its an accepted tactic.  ;D

managed a short winter grayling session on The Don this afternoon - behind Hillsborough College

six grayling and eight unsolicited trout - fly wasn't working, so had to resort to worm

the low sun even came out for a while - giving this weird glow to the fish as they left the water

a couple of herons and a sparrow hawk turned up to add a splash of nature

we are so lucky to have this sort of fishing in our city for free

Very nice, got Casting at the sun for xmas and have been thinking about getting back on the Don recently. Don't know that stretch, has it all recovered from the post-flood clearance works?

nope

that particular bit of river is in the middle of some work to protect the electricity substation thingy - big plastic sheets, scaffolding, sand bags and a massive pump in place - we didn't think we'd catch anything there, but it turned out OK.

in my opinion, the river in and around Sheffield has reached the end of being messed up by the work and is now starting to benefit from the changes - I have a good feeling about the coming spring/summer - the biggest fish may not be there, but what is there will do well

I think the plant life will do much better this year

no sign of the foreign crayfish yet; can't be far away...

Had a lovely family Easter weekend up in Teeside and despite being unable to get to Goldsborough Carr I discovered I was really close to Grassholme Resevoir which offers any method trout fishing at a very reasonable price (£13 after 2.30 for four fish). Bailiffs were dubious of my methods which made catching my limit (two rainbows and 2 blue trout) in an hour all the sweeter  :) By the time I'd packed up, all the locals were spinning where I'd been fishing!

I used a small dexter wedge on a light spinning rod, great fun. The biggest one was around 4lb by my reckoning...

Very tasty...

Come on Lagers, pull your finger out!!

I used a small dexter wedge on a light spinning rod,

I assume that this allowed you to cast a pretty long distance compared to most lures?

good effort

finger out as instructed by Fetneck

not on the same scale as Mark's whoppers, but this was the best of a good bunch from the Sheaf today

hit a nice rhythm of - catch some trout - pint in Broadfield - catch some trout - eat sandwiches - catch some trout - pint in Sheaf - catch some trout - go home for tea

should have put on sun cream

and, for those who know him, Otter caught fuck all as usual

the runners up

Nice work Lagers!! Lovely looking fish them and sounds like a good day out....

I got out yesterday on the pole at my local after bream and roach and caught this beauty...

Took me a long time to get in on light tackle and probably the second biggest fish I've ever caught! Well pleased...

Also managed some bream too :)

Great pics guys. Mark, I had my first trip to Baldstones and Newstones the day Senna was killed.  Went with Al Williams.  Seems an age ago...

here we see Otter demonstrating the importance of wearing camouflage when not catching fish

Fiend's red cammo gear might be more appropriate on some parts of the river

Not really quality, but as there is a dedicated fishing pics thread I felt it should go here rather than the "How Weird are some people" thread in the log-pile.

No idea if its fatneck or lagers....

I went pike fishing for the first time with my mate. Loved it, and caught a few pike. Result! (Has it become difficult to add photos on here recently? I've had a fight to get these to work and I'm still not entirely sure it has!)

Having made "one last cast" about 30 times I got this fine athletic specimen as it was getting dark last night

It gave a brilliant fight. Leaping all over and making really impressive slaps as it crashed back into the water. Light line, small fly, heart in mouth.

I've had a few like this recently (3 others in the last 3 weeks), just not in places where I could get a camera out

2 pints of Easy Rider to celebrate

I do like it when there's enough daylight to have a decent session after the kids are in bed

Nice one Lagers!

I managed to winkle this bugger out of the margins, to order in front of the wife and child last week...

The lad was delighted, as was I :)

Ooh and meant to say, nice Pike Mike!!

not a quality pic, but...

3 fish bag for just over 10lb

yes, that is a standard 40cm kitchen sink

had a day at Pennine Trout Fishery with Otter on Thursday

what a lot of fun

I "only" managed to get 8 fish on the bank - all about the same size as these three - lost a lot more and missed loads of takes

according to the regulars, it wasn't fishing well that day and normally it would produce more fish!

Otter hooked a couple of monsters, but was broken off both times - one was definitely a double - it stripped all his fly line and about 15m of backing before breaking him off

all fish were in great condition

I'll be going back
