Summit Series Road Trip
April 01, 2009, 09:14:19 pm
For anyone who is interested in following the story, there is a blog here....
http://thenorthfaceeu.typepad.com/summitseriesroadtrip/

They left manchester last night, with the new pimped up van   8) . A window had already been popped open and a rucksack was already missing before they had even left the car park- scallywags.  :rtfm:

Really? I'd say that is one of the most hideous campers I've ever laid eyes on. Here are some vans worthy of your envy:

Sorry,  :off:
Sounds like a fun, if exhausting, trip - good choice of first route too!

Bummer about getting robbed, but good work on getting the gear back.

That's some road trip they're heading on!

Ugly as sin, but wouldn't cause me to turn down a the trip, if offered (in my dreams).

I've lived with a van and a car from a bygone ear which initially seem worthy of serious envy. The reality is they're not. Something warm, spacious and modern ticks all the boxes now rather than one which may set fire to itself, will definitely rust away and certainly will take double the time to get anywhere...

I stand corrected.  However, excuse me for being pedantic but if it is to be moved, then perhaps it should be moved to 'chuffing'. The trip is to climb the 20 best 8a sport routes, not boulder problems.   ;D

I am filled with jealousy at the thought of a trip like this, and thus find it interesting (even if it's not "news")

But the blog seems remarkably light on details - there's no introduction which says who's there (apart from james and Gaz, and maybe unclesomebody??), and there's no dates on the stops, just numbering 1-35.

edit - I like CommunityWalk though - seems a bit better than mapfling

I think the numbers are the days, ie yesterday was day 1.
The van may look ugly in the pics but I thought it looked well bad ass and it was even better inside although I wouldn't fancy spending 40 days in it no matter how good it is

The numbers can't be days - Melloblocco is on the 10th May, which would be day 40, not 35.

That was my thought, there isn't much background information on the blog, but maybe it'll all be revealed in time.  I am supremely jealous, but that van is going to properly reek after a few weeks.

On the blog is a Press Release explaining the trip...

The map has just been updated to include dates as well so now you will know where we are and when we'll be there.

As for emailing Neil... I'd like to see that email... ha ha ha

big big waddage to uncle for finding the time to make and put up the video.
i don't want to sound naive or pathetic, but it really gave me the feeling of the many times i have left home for climbing trips with my friend, years ago. the sense of being open to whatever the trip could offer to us, is sadly a long lost feeling for me now. as anyone with a regular life made of work and relationships, when i go climbing now i need to have everything quite clear, because i just can't afford to lose time finding rocks, or a hotel, or anything else. i move, sometimes, for just one problem.
so, here's to the good ol' times, when all we needed was the gear and a full tank.

Great vid. Unc could definitely have a shot at making some professional film making for commercial release I reckon. If he hasn't already that is.

It's going to be a while before I can get that lycra spotting photo out of my mind...
