Mine are fine (though raceface prob better) but I just want something more comfortable...and I rarely lose my pedals these days so knees make sense. Now I've said that I'll churn my shins up on Sunday :)

Can anyone recommend decent, cheap DH gloves? My old Troy Lees are full of holes.
anything last year 661 on CRC, works for me.

Just left of Mind Bomb and that new one (The French Duke?). Long way down, and far from ideal landing!

Insane.

How's the recovery shaping up?

Still hurts a lot and going back to see the surgeon in 2/3 weeks ish to check progress.

Qn the plus side, have now bought a camper van, booked the ferry for the summer, 2 weeks at deux alpes, a week at montgenevre and a week at orcieres.

Hmmm....what's occurring? :)

http://thisisheffield.co.uk/2011/06/ayeup/

I had a ride up there this lunchtime and couldn't see anything going on - or any signs of work. Having said that its quite a big area and I could have easily missed it.

bit of a yyfy and a nnfn

Been to see the doc again wednesday and the x rays look good, shoulder healed pretty well.

However, he says no mountain biking for 2 months  :o which is a bit of a bummer considering I am off to deux alpes in one.

Question to FD and any one else in the know, how much of that 2 months is medical cautiousness and how much is essential?

I don't qualify for "in the know" but there's been two cases this year of MotoGP boys racing the week after busting collar bones  I think they have a few more screws put in than you have though, and a few more loose screws!

Not very helpful but hopefully optimistic?

Well Lance 'I'm clean' Armstrong did le tour with metal work in his collar bone about 3-4 weeks after the surgery.

The surgeon will say 2 months to cover himself - this is pretty traditional orthopaedic teaching of how long the bone will take to heal. Most orthopods will tell you that the metal work doesn't add any strength it just allows the bones to unite and heal properly - i.e in a straight line.
I think FD gases for a shoulder orthopod so may have more knowledge on this.

If I was giving advice to a patient I'd tell them 8 weeks like you have. If it was my holiday I'd be riding.

I had come to the same conclusion, only trouble is that they didnt operate immediately so I was in a sling 3 weeks before and then a further 4 after the op and my shoulder is now weak and very stiff. Need to MTFU I guess :(

I'll not even go to the information governance how you got a pic of your own imaging....

OK as fatkid said, BUT.....

you will probably not have the power to ride DH in deux alps.... 3 month soft tissue rehab for full on MTB i reckon.

Shot of the computer screen with a phone, cant imagine that's too naughty.

Guess the riding should be OK as the first month I will be following a 7 yr old and wont be hitting the harder runs. Will hopefully be better by end August when I am on my own and heading over to Andorra. Sabbatical is gooooooo :punk:

the IG ( info governance) is no better.... in fact it's probably illegal..... too complex for the reason of the thread.

anyways... good luck Ian.

Just be so so careful mate.

Hi, wondering if you guys can help me. I am looking to change the gear shifters on the littleone's bike. They are twist shift at the moment. The movement of trying to rotate them whilst going slowly up hill he ends up wobbling and then having to stop. I have been thinking that trigger shifters would be better.

The thing is can I get them for his bike and if I can what would people recomend.
His bike is an older version of http://www.lapierre-bikes.co.uk/lapierre/sport-leisure-mtb/2011/tecnic-20-lite-2011/specifications

On another note, my bike needs a service. Saw a guy from Hope at the weekend and he said my brakes need a bit of TLC. I have less than no time at the moment so could anyone recomend a decent place in London or fairly close by?

I'm not sure that trigger shifters would be better, the thumb levers to change up need quite a big movement that may be more difficult for small children.

Looking around, almost all kids bikes are supplied with twist shifters, even most of the Islabikes range (apart from the top age 9+ MTB).

But Islabikes do spec their other bikes with SRAM x4 shifters and deraillieurs

Quote
7sp wide ratio Sram X4 gears with 1:1 cable pull ratio giving a very light action at the shifter

If you can upgrade the twist shifter and the rear deraillieur (and maybe the cassette) your child would find it easier to change gear.

Twist grips are easier for kids. Their thumbs are not strong enough for trigger shifters
