interesting..

how does it fair to snowdon?

I presume the slate of skiddow is a bit sctetchy in the wet...

Maybe i was just being too cautious as yes, it is slate, and yes, it is terrible when wet. Options either side of main path too, but tickle the brakes in the wet and you slide. Will go back again in the dry. Not done snowdon.

Anyone got a quad, that climb was the worst i have ever experiences. Pushed most of the way  :-[

That was a great day. Good to see everyone. Thanks to FD for doing the driving.

Right, which internal organ do I need least so I can ebay it to raise money for a bigger bike?

You should be able to get something that will be totally fine for around £1500 - register on Southern Downhill and start looking at the classifieds. Fatdoc will be able to help you pinpoint that bargain :)

I'm going to start saving for something a bit lighter for next year myself I reckon.

Heads up.

Next summer I & FBSF will be going to Morzine / les Gets for 5 days. It will be in July, out of school hols.. flying... we intend to use one of the morzine chalet firms.... though not cheap I'd spend near the same on a 5 day trip round scotland doing DH & I havent been to the alps for 4 years!!!!

anyone else interested??

I'd rather go elsewhere to Morzine / Les Get - somewhere with less crowds and braking bumps ;)

if you're talking around the first half of july then i'll be out there and wouldn't mind hooking up. planning to be at alpe d'huez the weekend of 2 july for la marmotte. the following week could work for me...

might be more up for other locations - verbier, cham, etc...

Les gets has : new courses, there are multiple lines off the plenay and super moraine is now legal.

Crowds weren't ever a real issue

Combined with a plentitude of operators for travel & reasonable accommodation I can think no other area that's fits the bill.

Open to offers... But the new courses look full on enough & we can take the bumps, it will be early on in the season.

There must be shitloads of other places that aren't full of posing Brits. Leogang? How much more expensive would 10 days in Canada be with a bit of local knowledge? I bet AndyR could point us in the direction of some cheap accomodation with his local knowledge...

i have 5 days, not 10. Time is as big a factor as price for me next year.

I've investigated leogang.. looks good, very... courses less, trail options more.... Looks about the same price.

One aspect is I actually miss Les Gets / Morzine.. I started on a big bikes there, I've had some amazing / terrifying / elating experiences there. It may the Blackpool of chairlift DH, but I love the place. There seems to enough new to excite, but enough familiar to want to go back.

Posing brits, no worries there, I can let our nationality down with ease, a 7 year old shagged out Demo 8, faded apparel & a tattered Marin team DH jersey.. and I can honestly say " my other bike's a Marin". I'll also avoid the burger joints and be eating in the best restaurants before catching early nights... well.. after 8 beers and a bottle of wine, obviously.

I dunno..

but I will soon...

flights costs yet to be determined... accommodation is about 420 euro per week ( chalet.. much less without evening meal.. I'm looking at  a hotel / B&B where i get to go out to eat at night - I know some places there I want to eat in again) ... so fractionate down... transfers about 50 each way... lift pass 80 euro max.. 20 quids worth of brake pads, shock and fork service prior.. 200 quid ( essential)

not cheap... but compare it to the winter... it's value in my opinion.

here's an old favourite..

yes, I accept it's only  got a few more jumps in than before.. and got braking bumps the size of a very large thing... but.... c'mon... you know you want to..

I'll stop serially ( sp?) posting in a minute, but this shows the development Chatel ( 40 ins by lifts from lesgets in summer) has had in the 4 seasons since most of us on here have been... also shows a good example of alpine *lite Dh* where you get to let a bike go to full speed in a wonderful location... once done never forgotten!
