I'm sure the stumpy would be fine.... it's a bridleway... it's just you wont be flying down at warp speed.

BTW, I did hear a rumour someone died on it a few years ago.

I have a*new* bike... a 4 yr old SX trail frame with Maz 66s with 170mm ( for £130) all now finally working... test ride wharners at 08:00 saturday... ridden it for 30 mins as it was getting dark tonight.... FAST, light and rather fun.. good timing..

Did it today, very unimpressed. Long long slog for not much action. Yes its downhill for a long time but not much to play around with. It was very wet though so had to be a little cautious. Might need some new break pads though. They were boiling!
