Downhill Domination, "dropping in"
March 08, 2009, 03:35:21 pm
Was the cheesiest name I could think of, sorry  ;)

Right, now me old ribs are startin to gel together I've dragged myself and the big bike out to wharncliffe and I have to say it was rather a good larf. Having said that the place was sopping, greasy as hell apart from the two sort of jumpy / drop areas - which was where we rode near exclusively.

This got me thinkin for a few new venue / adventurous days out once the sleet stops lashing the windows  :'(

I've got a mini hit list:

- I'm well pysched to get over to cannock chase soon, if you trawl youtube and check out chasetrails.co.uk the place looks half decent (with the odd BIG jump / gap), the place is new to me, is pretty central to the UK, is no more than 40 mins from sheffield on a sunday morning, even has an XC loop there and boosts of very good drainage. Although i doubt it's well drained at the moment... this IMO would be a awesome UKB bike meet.. as there is a large variety of riding, none of us know the area, and would basically be a low pressure fun day out..

- Snowdon. Yes I was meant to do it last year, and the year before.. I really must get it together...

- Cwmdown... everyone says its the dogs...

- Stainburn. Not far away, looks like a fun day.

- Storthes Hall. Not hard, nearby.. splendid little drop with a double at the top which has so far eluded me..

- and more close to home, that damn double at wharncliffe that has taunted me for 3 years  ::)

- the *cough* special route around winhill on a perfect summer's night is one I'm keen to repeat on a weds nite ride

So, there's my  AM / *DH* plan for the spring & summer, injuries permitting.. anyone else got any plans for themselves and their bicycles?

OH, and a definite plan to actually wear the helmet cam more often!!

My plan is to get my knee working again so that I can walk... and avoid the surgeons knife.

Got some mates based in Telford who go to Cannock Chase for the XC fairly often. Apparently in the summer on a nice weekend day it is absolutely mobbed, so get there midweek, evening or early late in the day if you can.

Better off spending the travel time going to Hamsterley imo.

Another Caersws day would be good.

I dont doubt that bubbs, but for a new day out somewhere it looks alrite to me.

Some of the stuff there is certainly big enough for your needs, well.. as far as the youtube stuff looks anyways

I've ridden Cannock XC and the DH.

XC is fun enough but short, takes about 45 minutes.

The DH was good fun for me, but I doubt there is enough to keep you big boys happy (unless they've added stuff).

I'd be up for anything though really - need to get out and use the new bike.

They've added enough for a day out i reckon.

I'll investigate the pass out situation

i thought cannock was quite good fun.  i wasn't on a proper big bike when i had a play at the DH side.  there were some pretty big looking drops around, though i think my definition of "big" might have changed since then.

I need a guided tour of Wharncliffe sometime.

And def up for Cwmcarn.

I have only been doing XC recently though, so pretty rusty.

I'd be up for a play at Cannock - am rusty and unfit so might be ideal.

Could possibly get some of the Brum crew to come down too.

Cheshire Cat on Sunday so I'll not be there.

Think of me slogging round on my road bike as you have fun on your mountain bikes. At least they have stopped forecasting snow and 25mph wind now for Sunday.

*best non uplift DH* I've done... varied, not too hard... unless you want to take it on... some mad shit hidden away if you want it... easy push up. well drained, close to the road, easy to park

1hr 15 from sheff.... class place...

I really really think it would be a perfect UKB biking day away... bring some sarnies, take a few vids... and generally piss about for a day....

I'd say TLR, fatkid, norton, Yoss and anyone else with a full suss would have a blast... some of the bigger lines may need a little more travel.. but the essance of the day would be good humored muckin about

anyone???
