Tried to be clever and embed it in this post, but couldn't get it to work.

Not sure that link works either

(edit - it does now, first time it took me to a sailing book)

Anyway, it's here.

I like the production on these guides, plus they cover some areas not yet in the current SMC series.

Good layout, etc easy to read, etc. I won Vol 1, so will probably end up buying this one, as I am a bit anal like that.

Just wouldn't want to have to carry it on a multipitch route, the SMC "best of" guide definitely wins on that front.

I know this is kind of veering off topic, but I'm going to ask anyway.   :P

Is Volume 1 worth getting, Chris (or anyone else who has it)?  I saw sample pages online the other day and it looked nice, but is it a worthwhile addition when I already have the SMC best of or would I just be doubling up?  The layout looks pretty good from what I've seen.

Is the SMC guide is all you have, then I would recommend getting it / them. If you do not intend getting the full set of SMC guides, then it would be good to have this, as the scope covers a lot more the SMC one.

But then I have all the new series of SMC Gudes thus far and will still get it, so possibly niot the best person to give an objective opinion.

The layouts are great, descriptions and pictures are excellent, as are maps etc. Just, as I say a bit bulky for carrying on a long multipitch route, although you could copy a few of the relevant pages if you have an idea where you plan to go.

Sold!  ;D  They do look like really nice books, it would almost be wrong not to buy them.
