Lanny Bassham (would make for an interesting section in future guidebooks).  In fact in 1000 years time people may even believe that Lanny was the first ascentionist).

Is ascentionist a word?

This is good, rather than desperatly trying to come up with 1 semi-decent name I now have hundreds to choose from.

I don't like Riot Act. Firstly there's already a famous problem called Riot Act in the Frankenjura. Secondly it's a cliche (but not in an ironic way) and sounds like a name for a 3rd rate action movie (but not in a good way).

I kinda felt this way, but thought it was worth having a normal type name rather than all fruit/animal related stuff.

I think it is between Lanny Bassman and Peahound although anything Tom suggests is good and he has a proven track record of quality route names (Lets get dead etc)
Pulsedog, beanwolf, chickpea hyena...
see, all good

I think May suggested 'Ladders and Bridges' (and a few weeks ago when looking at a photo of it 'Grey Crack') and it pays to keep her happy.

I always find that the origins of a routes name to be the very interesting, and I think that would work well too, as it adds a personal dimension (perhaps).

Hope you're keeping a note book of potential names for all the projects you're likely to crush (although this thread in and of itself is such a record!).

I think May suggested 'Ladders and Bridges'

That's quite a good name, simple and vaguely ironic.

You want something more intellectual, JB?
You could go with Wordsworth's poem of The White Doe of Rylstone (already a route), but use the subtitle of The Fate of the Nortons.
Or local history/fiction such as Kildwick Murder, Monument of Mystery....

Or you could go with Peahound

I quite like The Fate of the Nortons. A bit of intrigue there. As there is with Peahound. Where is Peahound? The only google result is now this thread.

Hope you're keeping a note book of potential names for all the projects you're likely to crush (although this thread in and of itself is such a record!).

Found my list of new route names in the back of 'Ben's first climbing book' from when I was 11, they don't stand the test of time! I think it is lucky I didn't really do many new routes before I was 13 or so (I think my first was 'sten gun' on stennis head) or you would all think I was even worse at naming than I am now!

Dull though, painfully dull.

Just remember how long it has taken for May to like you, if she reads this (probably not long until she can at the rate she was going yesterday) you will be in serious trouble. She has said today that 'ladders and bridges' is going to be the name of her big new route so if I steal it there may be trouble.

I quite like The Fate of the Nortons. A bit of intrigue there. As there is with Peahound. Where is Peahound? The only google result is now this thread.

shit, I thought it was pretty much decided on Peahound now there is all kinds of other shit being suggested.

The Fate of the Nortons is a quality name. I like Peahound but have the same reservations as Ru. It just doesn't seem fitting for this line for some reason.

Another vote for Peahound!

I think you've got to keep it in line with your oeuvre word, make sure its consistent in 20 years time. Fate of the Nortons would stick out like a sore thumb.

Peahound is succinct at least, and "hound" evokes both your own hound and the wild moorland setting.

Might I say that a committee (as in the Let's Name Ben's Route Committee) is no way to make a decision on a route name. Better your own crap one than a committee decision. One thing I would say is at least Peahound has only 2 syllables which makes it at least 4 syllables better than most other suggestions.

Not sure May would get into Wordsworth. She strikes me as more odf a Dr Seuss kind of girl.

What a grumpy guts!!  I don't think anyone is really suggesting Ben should name it as per UKB request.  In fact, who thought of Peahound, the most popular suggestion?

One thing I would say is at least Peahound has only 2 syllables which makes it at least 4 syllables better than most other suggestions.

There's logic for ya  :-\

How about "Jam Cat"- 2 syllables.
