Definitely a first world NNFN which is inconsequential in the grand scheme of things but... Just cancelled Asian honeymoon plans due to low likelihood of being able to travel there late summer - looking at closer opportunities now  :'(

Yeah, that's a bit crap. Fingers crossed you find something you both want to do.

We had to cancel the wedding and honeymoon last May, obviously due to covid - we've still not rearranged it and some days I wonder if it'll happen now.

Thanks man, ah I hope you both get the psyche back to re-arrange it! We have our fingers crossed that Biden will allow our British contingent to attend ours...

Conversely the pandemic can be seen as a golden opportunity to get hitched with minimal expense, planning, family issues, hassle etc. Requires a like-minded partner but I thoroughly recommend it.

Damn it. We still regret not doing it in Vegas when we were there, and telling the family we did it while drunk.

Mixed bag, 2 YYFY and 1 NNFY:

Partner and I completed first house purchase end of May, YYFY! (Woodie shed is on order  :2thumbsup:)

Good timing as Chaz jnr is due in Dec, YYFY!

Fast forward a few weeks and I lost a fight with a wardrobe, resulting in a torn bicep tendon (elbow), NNFN!!! Looking at either I) lots of physio and a slow recovery, or II) small operation, lots of physio and a slow recovery  :wall:

FN... pending potential NNFN!!!!

Took a short (i.e around a metre) fall onto my pads while bouldering at Sour Milk, thrust my arms behind me to cushion the fall and bent my right wrist back on a boulder.  Appearance-wise, it just looked like a severe sprain but felt worse and "weird".  I went to Keswick A&E, where I was told it was a possible scaphoid fracture.  An X-ray the next morning saw nothing untoward but supposedly scaphoid fractures are often invisible on X-ray until around 10 days after the incident.

So, I now have to behave as though my wrist is broken until the post-10 day X-ray - wear a splint and live one-handed (although I keep inadvertently using my right hand to type etc, as "light" duties cause little pain - but might interfere with healing). If it is broken, it's 6 weeks of non-use (if there are no complications).

Hey ho... I was very pissed off at first (two nights eating and drinking myself through an accelerated version of the first four of the "Seven Stages of Grief"!) but now resigned.  I've already done a calibration session for assisted left-hand max hangs!

Double ouches.

Scaphiod fracture is not to be taken lightly. Apparently one of the few bones in the body where the blood flows in and out of the same side, so if it's not  set properly the end bit will die and can get arthritic. My aunt boke hers skiing (common FOOSH injury) and never got it checked out until months later, by which time it was too late.

Cheers for the concern.. I am trying to keep hopeful - nothing was evident on the X-ray the day after, so I presume I haven't got one of the worst-case scenarios - a grossly displaced or non-union fracture. "Dr Google" can be misleading, but I've read reference for very light use of the afflicted arm being okay during rehab (<0.5kg loading) - and if typing and using a camera shutter is okay, i.e. using finger-tips while in a cast / splint, I can work.

I hope this turns out OK Moose. Not pleasant waiting to see how it goes with this sort of injury. As you say, you got it looked at quickly and the x-rays don’t show anything obvious so it sounds positive.

I’ve broken both of mine - no problems so far.

Ouch!
Best of luck to both of you guys for a complete and quick recovery.
On a side note, after just a few weeks of supinated grip pull ups and bentover rows, I started feeling a slight niggle in my medial left elbow.
I'd better sack them and avoid another NNFN...

Fucking hell Nibs, cease and desist! I’d had an extremely mild niggle in my elbow for a few weeks prior, thought it was just DOMS. Put my body weight into moving the wardrobe with my arm down low, palm away, and rrrrrriiiiipppp. 5 minute lie down feeling sick, increasing pain and then a trip to minor injuries.

Had my ultrasound Wed and consultation this morning, diagnosis: High grade partial tear of distal biceps tendon. After being told I would be a prime candidate for operating to put it right, they've changed their minds and think it can be managed without. So now I'm on 5 weeks with no lifting whatsoever before they see me again, followed by months of physio and it may never heal back to full strength. If after 3 or 4months there's still significant weakness, they will reconsider the op. Here we bloody go....

Did you get seen on the NHS. I ask this because when I snapped my Achilles bouldering. The NHS doctor said they went down the non surgical route if you were not active. I pointed out I had injured myself in an activity but he said no we will treat it in conservative way.
I then saw a Consultant through my wife’s works health insurance scheme who was a specialist in lower leg injuries. He said it had a 15 % increased chance in re rupturing if treated conservatively instead of having surgery.
It might be worth paying for a second opinion by someone does this surgery for professional sports people.

Camper Van was stolen last night off the drive behind a padlocked gate. White Ford transit VN07 NZT if anyone spots it. Nothing special but become quite attached to it recently.

Shit, that sucks! Hope you get it back. Has anyone with a van ever not had it stolen? Seemingly happens all the time!

Transits are particularly vulnerable unfortunately. Sorry to hear that, Simon. Gus wasn’t lying on your FB post btw, it’s definitely worth driving around. Ask
him about the breakers yard. I think Alex Waterhouse drove around and had his recovered.

I'd probably get it checked out further before cracking on with climbing. As above, scaphoid # can be very hard to see on any scans, but potentially bad news if untreated. IIRC some distil radius # are hard to see as well, and also a common one after FOOSH injuries. Not trying to worry you, if also may very well just be a bit bruised but a little more patience is rarely regretted in the long run.

A quick update; the long awaited consultation from my local GP on the radiology report was a text message "The followup Xray of your right wrist was normal.  Best Wishes.  Dr XXXX".  No mention of any possibility it might still be broken or prognosis / advice on care .

So, I decided to do what I probably should have done from the start and informed my work healthcare insurance of the accident.  Had a video interview with a GP later that day and he said the intermittant pain is probably internal inflammation but he'd refer me for an MRI just to make sure.  Two days later, thanks to a cancellation, I had the MRI (which was a lot more "Event Horizon" than I was expecting) and am now waiting for the findings.

From NNYN! (my accident) to YYFY (all clear from post-10 day X-ray) and back to NNFN....

The MRI found evidence of an avulsion fracture of my trapezius - basically the strain on a ligament tore a chip from the bone (my ligaments are seemingly stronger than my bones... though I'm not sure if this a good thing in this case!).  Initial prognosis is that it might settle down but surgery might be for the best.  So, I'm being referred to a specialist orthapedic hand surgeon for a consulation.

Ah well... at least I now feel better informed about my situation... and the weather is too hot for climbing anyway (mind you, it's too hot for walking too really!).
