It’s all very first world problem, all a bit middle class angst.

It's not. They are real problems, each of which would be hard to deal with, but collectively must be overwhelming. If this is one of your few places to vent your concerns, anxieties, or anger, then please fire away if it helps. All we can do is try to understand your burden, and try to offer support where possible. This is a fucked up time for everyone, but hopefully won't be forever. The sun always rises even if you can't always see it for clouds.

It sounds a fucking nightmare Matt. I thought I was having a bad day as two of my birthday presents have been lost/ nicked by the carriers.
Hang in there.

Stay strong Matt.

You are having to deal with a whole host of problems all at the same time, any one of which would be serious on itself. It also sounds like you are knuckling down and making sure you change it, rather than rolling over.

Well done!!!!

Only just seen this. Get a diagnosis pretty quickly and consider paying for a scan if advised. A completely ruptured S-L ligament has a relatively short window in which it can be reattached. After that it can only be reconstructed which is quite an invasive operation with poorer outcomes. It's not a ligament you can do without as a lack of one usually leads to problems. Don't want to scare you and it's probably not that if you did it pulling on a sloper (usually caused by falls onto outstretched hands), but it's something you want to get investigated just in case.

Thanks for the advice, I'm quite confident that it is only a minor tear or 'stretch' of the ligament if anything. The pain reduced quite rapidly in the days after I made the post. And has slowly decreased in the weeks since then.

I still have pain now but it is substantially reduced, it's mostly just some discomfort in certain positions. I pretty much have full range of mobility, press ups/mantling are a bit uncomfortable, but are still manageable.

If it stops improving I think I'll get it scanned at The Clinic, but doesn't seem necessary at the moment.

I've since done the problem I sprained it on, and done plenty of mileage during the good weather, so spirits are pretty high about it at the moment.

Obviously extremely minor in the grand scheme of things but the thought of another two weeks (at least) stuck inside in Leicester while everyone else continues life as normal is distinctly shit this evening.

That does suck! Are there any suggestions as to the cause of the spike?

Abandon ship ASAP. Bivvy beneath the cornice and catch fish in the Wye.

Dunno if this holds any water b it lads I’m working with were saying they were in Leicester early in lockdown and have been saying it seemed like business as usual.

Don’t know how much truth there is in that.

Here you go, Jim. Should keep you entertained and inspired.

Alternatively, I think jumping the wire on a motorbike works, but only if there's only one fence. Not sure if your van has got the revs for it.

Just as things were starting to fall into place as I was getting back to strength, my wrist has flared up again. Think it may be from the cortisone shot wearing off  :wall:8 months injured out of the 15 I’ve lived here and counting...

Sorry to read that. From my personal experience, I strongly suggest that you stop the cortisone and look for a long term fix.

+1 on that. They are only supposed to be a one off, and repeat treatment is apparently not recommended. I had one injection in my thumb about 5 years ago, and it's still noticeably thinner than the one on the other hand.

Yeah that's what I've heard. Thing is that I had five months off for this over winter for the MRI to come back and say there was effectively nothing wrong with my wrist, just some inflammation of a minor muscle. The cortisone shot worked a dream (I've had past experience of cortisone doing bugger all)...

I think this pain may be a culmination of all my wrist ailments. Broke it 12 years ago, ulnar head issues 4 years ago, this recent one all on the same wrist

That’s very frustrating. Time for a second opinion?

A couple of general observations. Firstly, you’re not a small man and you have a climbing style that’s quite demanding on your joints. Secondly, I could be mistaken, but my impression is you’ve resumed full-blast climbing quite quickly after you’ve recovered from injuries. It’s possible the connective tissues (tendons, ligaments) have not had a chance to rebuild after the lay-off. All this leaves you prone to re-injury.

Along with whatever medical intervention you have, a combination of long-term protective/preventative exercise programme and some movement coaching might make you a bit more resilient. And easing yourself back into things a little more gradually. An expert coach and/or specialist physio. might help with these.

That definitely could be it, I’ve felt my return has been slow but perhaps not slow enough. Seeing a specialist tomorrow, will see what he says...

Specialist fairly useless, touting that this was likely just irritation of the TFCC. I asked him what I could do to prevent recurrent injuries like this in future, he said stop climbing... Should have walked out of there then... He suggested another cortisone shot (different location and also neither were into tendons so apparently multiple would not degrade tissue) and I've booked to see a physio to get advice on long-term solutions. I've found a load of strengthening exercises that I've started and intend to continue with and have also contacted a movement coach for once I'm back on the wall... Also hoping to do some multi pitch trad while I'm getting back into bouldering

Go and a proper climbing physio, feels like there are more and more in the US. Worth a drive to find a good one..
Eg maybe:

"Zack DiCristino, MSPT, OCS, SCS (US)
I am a Board certified orthopedic and sports specialist.

I have been climbing for 20 years and practicing Physical therapy for 15 years. I worked at Stanford University Athletics for 8 years with collegiate athletes from 36 different sports. I have been working with recreational and professional climbers for 8 years. I currently am the Lead Physical Therapist for the USA Climbing Team and am based out of Vail, Colorado.

I was going to say the same, if you are in CO you must be spoilt for choice. I guess there may be an issue with being able to use insurance or not?

Life got in the way of me seeing a physio about my wrist issues but (wholly unsurprisingly) following the advice given (when finally sought) and doing the exercises really helped progression. The initial exercises were as simple as gripping a rolling pin and essentially opposing the force applied by my other arm 6 times for 30 seconds at a time. It was remarkable how tired that made my wrist feel.

Progress still seems slow mind you (+7 months) but I'm now doing less things that make me wince with pain. Best of luck with it.

Mortgages are a pain in the arse...

Paid for the valuation on 1st September and was told it would be done within a week. Today was the 7th time it's moved since then with it now set for the 21st October. Hopefully I can get this brought forward again...

It means we now need to pay for everything else before knowing whether we've got the mortgage sorted. As it's a bank one we can't go for anyone other than their approved surveyor so there's not much we can do other than hope it doesn't get moved again.

While it doesn’t help your current problem, it’s worth raising a complaint about this. We had a similar issue with the survey holding up the mortgage and not actually seeing the survey before having to commit to everything else. We got money back from the surveyors and £500ish from the lender.

I think we will given how much back and forth and stress it causes. Good to hear you got a decent amount back from it!

The thing that annoys me a lot is that you call the bank and they take the money for the valuation. Then anytime there's an issue the response is that it's all handled by a third party and I'll need to contact them.

Luckily, someone finally said the bank could actually escalate it and it's now been brought forward to 8th October (the eighth time it's moved...).

I've worked my ass off for two weeks on a single document for a lawsuit, sent everything off this late morning with 33 other separate attachments, each one with a separate digital signature, certifications, notifications, certified email data and everything, only to find out, upon having access to the digital folder, that the hearing, due for next week, has been postponed to may 2022.
Now I want to cry.
