Hard to know without a location  ;) it'll be a pile of schist if it's your local.

Bit of rock I've been waiting for ages to dry out was finally dry last night. After working a few moves I promptly snapped off the crucial starting hold. Any suggestions for gluing schist. Or is it granite? Andy?

I was out with the irrepressibly psyched Kevin Woods in Glen Lednock earlier this year after wandering up Ben Chonzie we went for a boulder on John Watson's "7b project". After a few attempts we decided the large "standing stone" right at spine height needed moved. While doing a full force leg press to topple it I started wondering where I would end up of it did topple...  Anyway, I digress.

Said 7b project had a lovely crimp rail halfway up a 35* overhanging schist boulder. We tried this method, that method, the next method. Back to "heel hook and pull hard" method but this time the rock had had enough and deposited me on my heel on a sharp rock. Not sure if I cracked anything but it was bloody sore for weeks!

Quite. Soup in a basket next...

I was drinking wine from a jam jar on Saturday eve - but that was because there were no glasses left...

Edit - I thought that was breakfast in a jam jar at first but just noticed it's a kilner jar... equally ffs.

I'm having my first day off work ill in over 6 years. Spent the night hallucinating with a fever on the sofa, and some sort of hybrid cold/flu mother fucker kicking my arse. Snot, snot, more snot, savage coughing that makes my eyes feel like they're gonna pop out my head, pressure in my head, weak as shit, constant thirst etc. I don't get ill, but when I do it flattens me.

Absolutely ruined, but hopefully through the worst today. Off to the shop for chicken soup and Lucozade soon!

Ginger tea with honey, lemon and whisky.

You could probably skip the ginger, honey & lemon

I don't put any actual tea in ginger tea anyway. Otherwise yes.

So I was moved to try and venture back into Sport.

It's not going well.

Somewhere between 5 and 10 moves and I'm pumped. My feet are plopping around like spastic Goldfish on a chopping board etc etc and several years of working problems with a timer set for 3min on 3min off has screwed me.
(I actually thought my running and otherwise excellent fitness would carry me through. How wrong).

Still, today was the first session and not the reason for the post.

I lost track of time. I had to be back in Torquay to open the wall at 12. At 11:40, I'm still in Torbryan, nattering to TobyD. I don't know where my head was, I suddenly realise I can't get back in time.

Fuck, fuck, fuckity. I've left the car in the car park, so sprinting up the path beside the road, I grab my phone, call Polly to get over to the Bunker and open up.

The path is a bit overgrown.

My clip-stick is sticking up, higher than my head, securely attached to the axe loops on my Bergan.

Unfortunately, the creeper that crossed the path just above head height, was also firmly attached....

The phone conversation went something like:
"Pant, Huff, Polly! CanyougetintotheBunkertoopenupbecauseI'mstilatTorbrEEERK!"

My feet were suddenly higher than my head.

In that moment, as Gravity forgot me at the apex of my downfall; I watched my phone lazily somersault into the fricking brambles.

Apparently, an 80mtr rope, gear and 81kg of me, can put quite a strain on a Coccyx, when dropped on it from a height of just over a meter.

I was late and Polly hasn't stopped laughing yet.

No, no, you were definitely meant to laugh.
Had you seen me climbing beforehand, even more so.

my left foot joint swelling and pain had almost reduced to the point where I could put on a comfy rock shoe and put some weight on the edge

it swelled right up again on Friday - possibly due to me walking to work to test the foot (easy half hour stroll on pavement concentrating on good form) - and now I can't put any weight on the front of that foot

X ray didn't show any break, Dr says it's just wear and tear and to keep eating pain killers

whole foot is slightly swollen and more red than the right one (the right foot is the one full of screws and scars)

almost no range of movement in both joints on the big toe - just pain

most distressing

buggering bastard

Nothing showing on x-ray?
Weird.
The description sounds like a flare of my arthritis (in my case Halux ridgidus, an ostio arthritis) which definitely shows on x-ray.
My son has Rheumatoid arthritis, which is not visible on x-ray (soft tissue issue) but presents in a similar fashion, albeit far more widespread (usually more than one joint) though most of his flares are in one joint. We’re told that is unusual and fortunate as it may not b3 idiopathic, but reactive and therefore not permanent (this seems to be the case as he has had fewer and less severe flares as time goes on).
There are blood tests for this and Ultra sound highlights the inflamation. Reactive arthritis is usually triggered by a viral infection, as I understand, and rarely permanent; though you may become more sensitive to such responses after an occurrence (it was described to me as analogous to a allergic response).

Worth checking?

First NNFN post of the 2018...

After a few great months and a lovely day on the Eskdale Granite yesterday (including a quick ascent of Strong Arete) I carried on trying another problem when I felt I should give up.

Obviously this was a stupid idea and now I can't even start to squeeze a stress ball without excruciating pain in my second joint, middle finger.

Balls balls balls.

Going too book into a local finger specialist to assess the damage this week. Seems to happen everyone every time I start going well and go for a big day...
