Those pics were taken during the heatwave leading up to the bushfires. We had a 10 day run at our place with maximum temps of 37,41,44,43,35,34,37,32,34 and finally 49 degrees (which was the Saturday of the big fires.) We're all hoping we don;t get a run like that this summer or else I suspect the mrs will be wanting to move back to the UK or something!

It was a summer of heat like that (bit higher if I remember correctly) that put me off staying in Perth.

Poor wee animals.   :'(

Dave, make sure your bar is open for them this year, please, with water and perhaps some fruit too.

On an Ottery theme; I enjoyed the 2 part thing on Radio 4 by Terry Nutkins "In the ring of bright water" about Gavin Maxwell and the goings on at Sandaig.

Second part is still available for listening

I thought he was going to Sardinia?

Anyway, in the meantime here's a baby raccoon:

Sardinia is towards the end of November, but I did go to Donna Nook this weekend.  Not many pups so I've just posted them in Recent Wildlife thread, but no harm in duplicating  (copying and pasting is sooo easy ;D)

We were in luck as the lady at the B&B we stayed at said there had been a "couple" of seals so far.  When we got there this "couple" seemed to have multiplied into several hundred or so (at least as far as we could see, probably more).

You can get really quite close, probably 40-50m before they get bothered and head back towards the sea, my wife wrapped up warm in front of the seals...

We managed to avoid doing this, but the small black dots in the last large pic above are some serious (semi-/pro) photographers who seemed more intent on getting a shot with their huge lenses and tripods than respecting the seals.  They'd walked towards a large group and stopped and crouched down and set their tripods up only when the seals turned round en masse and moved away from them!!  Considering most had very pro equipment and lenses with >400mm focal length (one was about 1m long and camouflaged!!) I thought it was pretty crap that they weren't more considerate of the seals.

I think I'll probably try heading back in a few weeks when there are more seals (literally thousands apparently), but it gets exceptionally busy and the car park by the beach only has about 40 spaces!!

We've had otter baby / shield before, but it is so worth seeing again.  Look how sweet they are!!  Nice raccoon too.

The seals are really cool, I would love to go and see them.

Will I cry at the ottery radio thing?  I am imagining Watership Down.  :'(

I think the cat is playing too, look at its ears- forward facing all the time. The little sod knows exactly what it can get away with.
Which is what cats are all about really, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

I know he was, my two wrestle like that too, but I know what the wee demons can be like, I have several permanent scars from mine 'playing' with me.   You can tell he loves the dog really, he lies on him for a cuddle at the end.

Cats know that we think that forward facing ears mean play. They also know when they're on camera.

They know you have written this; they know how close you are to THE TRUTH.
You've been a good friend and I'll miss you.
(You know they will make it look like an accident, cat litter will be involved, there will be a mouse head on the pillow beforehand.)

Be careful of cats getting under your feet at the top of the stairs. That's how they usually do it.

I've seen them, they are excellent though, aren't they, I love the engineers.   My Zia can yodel, but only for a short period before she gets bored and tries to take your nose off.

Bailey doesn't yodel, she just mewls when she's horny. Otherwise she's quiet all the time!
