I got home and discovered I'd been burgled...
Still at least the scrote(s) left some DNA behind..
Sigh.....

Bad luck. It is shit I agree. Just hope you didn't lose too much that was irreplaceable and that the insurers cough up plenty for some nice new shit.

Cheers Guys,
Just finished a day of sorting shit out (new locks/windows etc..).. funny what people take, amongst the things missing are 1 glove, three pairs of jeans (which leaves me with one pair! I only discovered when I got out of th eshower and started looking for clothes to wear!), a hull city scarf - and unfortunately a couple of laptops and 100 euro's I had tucked away. My goretex has gone, but mercifully they decided not to vault over the back fence carryoing my bouldering mat! Thankfully they seem to have been quick and have not made a mess (as ide from broken glass) so its not too bad. THe whole process seems more annoying than nasty if that makes any sense. ANyway, they left some blood on the glass (despite wearing gloves) so we'll see what happens.
Thanks for the words gents,
T

What's that you say? A pair of Hestra ski gloves, three Sony Vaio 18.4" laptops, four pairs of PRPS jeans, two North Face Vanquish jackets, 500 euros and a 1930 FA Cup Semi final Hull City scarf signed by the team? Best get that claim form filled in.

DNA.
SOCO were there within 30 min of calling.. gave up looking for fingerprints after establishing they were wearing gloves, but took some blood samples from the window they broke and inside the house...

Jasper, tempting that it is, I havnt been creative... sometimes I'm too honest for my own good...

(Steve, cheers for doing the insurance job whilst I was at the works... great alibi  :) )

So you'll find out that it was some scally who has a string of petty breaking and entry/posession offences and by the time he's caught up with by Mr Plod your kit will have been flogged on for a pittance to fund the next hit.  It'll still be your insurance company who end up coughing up and you who gets an increase in your premium.  Worst of all though you won't get to kick the shit out of the cunt.

Yup, probably someone after some money for a fix - and they did good with my house... Funnily enough I'm not at all angry about it (yet!) just arsed off that I had a really good week off, great day bouldering and now just spent a day sorting out locks, and dealing with computer shit,,..

I do read the Guardian and I am liberal in many areas, penal policy is however not one.

Today three men who gang raped a mentally retarded 16 year old then poured caustic soda on her causing severe burns and life long physical and psychiatric injury received sentences of between 6 and 9 years.  I don't have Thomas on Sentencing to hand or know what the current JSB guidelines are but for a contested trial this seems to be at least 50% to low.

Successive governments of every stripe have for 38 years failed to address the central root of acquisitive crime which is the prohibition on drugs, we either need to legalise all drugs or give all dwelling house burglars a minimum of 7 years and only release when its established that they're clean and employable.  short revolving door sentencing is realy no answer.

those guys are scum, I can't actually see anyone who does that being a useful member of society...

I don't know the answer, but having got burgled on friday (whilst at work covering 2 wards when I should have been on a day off because of sickness and medical staffing ineptitude to find a locum despite knowing about shortages since before december...) and spoke in length to the feds.

burglars are not getting custodial sentences becuase the prisons are full, and because "robbery " ie street muggings the like is considered worse so all the pikeys are out stealing from people at work or little old dears. hence burglary is on the up cos they get an hours community service.
i don't think prison works those sent to jail are 5 times more likely to reoffend (are they less likely to get a job, or are they made worse in the clink or were they going to reoffend anyway and its just an association i don't know)
again heroin addicts with generally a minimum of 40 quid a day habit are unlikely to be holding down a job that allows them to earn 280quid a week, where's that gonna come from, crime? again stamping out drugs will help sort this out, get them clean in the clink (methadone) then random checks once outside if they're back on it then back to the clink.
I don't really know the answer but here's a thought to ponder, the nhs pay sodexo 60p a day for food for a patient in hospital, sodexo get paid 90p a day for a prisoner... how's that fucking fair. plus crims get paid to work whilst in jail, now fucking hang on a minute, it costs 50g to keep someone in jail for a year 85grand in high security, pay your own way you theving scum, they should be made to bloody work.

not sure what my points are really, just it fucks me off getting burgled, and i'd rather my tax went to look after little old dears than the people that attack them.

Sorry to hear you were done on friday... Its not great is it... When I opened the front door and the security chain was on my heart sank....

Not sure what the answer is: my fairer half is a probation officer - and whilst she has some successes, she has plenty of people who she knows are jumnping thorugh the hoops, get out then will re-offend. She says that some people just dont know any other way - thats all they've known...

Hope you get it all sorted out SaltBeef.

Can or should these people be rehabilitated?

I think not.  I strongly believe they should be raped daily by bull queers for 16 years live on TV.  Fuck 'em.  Failing that, exterminate them.  It's cheap, expedient, savage and appropriate.

I don't give a flying fuck if this statement bothers you.

As Sloper has inferred above, if heroin was supplied in an unrestricted way to addicts on prescription then burglary/shoplifting rates would plummet overnight.

I got done when I was in bed - not exactly a nice thought that some cunt was rifling through my shit downstairs as I slept.

Fit an alarm, leave lights on, etc - it all helps.

Overheard two lads walking down our road today - one said to the other (whilst looking up at our house then at the one across the road) words to the effect of "yeah, they've all got alarms on round here..." :(

I'm with you Houdini .... They could call it Big Bugger ....
I had my car broken into , something which I can almost accept as part of modern urban life , but why the fuckers had to smash a rear window so that it filled my son's car seat with glass is something that made me want to knock their teeth so far down their throats that they'd be butt-fucking themselves with a toothbrush ....

Its strange, I'd be much more fucked off if someone had kicked in my car. At least boigling my house had a purpose (assuming its get some goods to get a fix type scenario) wheras just stoving in a windscreen or damaging something for no reason is just pointless...
Mind you, if the cunts had shat in my bed I would be going mental right now...

:agree: leagalise everything (not everyone will/wants to spend their whole life smacked up to the eyeballs, it will be a minority).

Legal system is very fucked up, insufficient sentences for that raping and the instances where burglars sue defendants for injury and shit when they shouldn't even have been there, its all wrong.

A wise move indeed - my mate's experience of having laptop burgled with all his pics of 4 yrs of travelling, family weddings etc on it made me (and most of my mates) pull our fingers out and back shit up.

His face when I asked '...but you've got all your stuff backed up somewhere haven't you?' made me wish I hadn't asked.

On the subject of DNA - the arse who broke into mine, and lots of others, car at the Premier Inn at the NEC last year was caught thanks to leaving his blood on the broken glass. He got 18 months, which was far more inconvenient than me driving back to Dorset without one of my back windows.

Heaven forbid I give the impression of extremism, but if we'd taken his arms at the shoulder - would he re-offend?   ???

The bugger about renting is dog ownership is verboten.  Shame, for all concerned.  Doberman's rule.

I spilt a cup of tea on my laptop 2 years ago, and paid £200 to recover my files from my HDD, after that I signed up to the online backup service carbonite which just potters around in the background backing stuff up automatically.
I'm downloading all my backed up files now... (phew). not sure if its the best of its type, but certainly recommended for disorganised people like myself who forget to back up...

Dogs are great, cats 'aint gonna do shit to protect the family silver...

Hope all the above sad tales have happy insurance covered nice shiny new electrical equipment type endings. Maybe the following story of burglary gone bad may cheer your hearts.

The only time anybody has tried to rob me was when our current house was in the very early stages of renovation and we weren't living in it. I actually saw the scrotes pull open a boarded up window to get in as I was walking up to the house in the morning. At this time the house was pitch dark as all the windows were boarded up but I had wired up lights throughout that came on with one central switch, also there were hardly any internal walls so it was essentially just one big open space. So whilst the scrotes were stumbling around in the dark I got the chainsaw and took it to the lightswitch. A quick pull to start up the chainsaw, rev it a few times then flick the lightswitch. Man those fuckers could run fast. Never been troubled since....

My recommendation of carbonite is without trying anything else... so please bear that in mind.. mozy and the others may now be better etc.. (was 2 years ago I subscribed to Carbonite). I'd also use the trial first, as you may not like how it works and/or it may hog some system resource (though carbonite seems OK). I think it cost me £20 for two years, which at the time seemed like quite a bit - but well worth it compared to the 200 sheets to get my data back off my HDD...
Actually, my carbonite sub is up in a month, so if anyone has any experience of the others, please let me know..

Just got one from B&Q - made by friedland - £120 for solar alarm box, 2 pir's, 2 door things and control box. All wireless... and the solar thing  keeps the external alarm box topped up. I also got an identical dummy external box for out back (normal batteries and flashing lights).
I was putting it in tonight, but decided it was past the hammer drill watershed  :)
I'll let y'all know what its like in a couple of days if you like?

Yeah, it's fine - the batteries in the PIRs need changing regularly as they're in a cold garage but the unit has always stayed charged using solar power through winter, etc.

Thought I'd post an update.. Just had a call from Humberside police, and they've arrested and charged someone over my burglary.. they've admitted it and are in court tomorrow. He wouldnt tell me any other details, but given what he said ("dont worry they'll be in prison tomorrow") I suspect its a breach of probation/bail...
No surprises that none of my kit has been found/reclaimed. But pretty quick seeing as it happened 8 days ago, I suspect its a case of the DNA results came back today and the went and knocked on someones door....
I know it doesnt always work out this way, but I've been pretty impressed with how the dibble dealt with everything..
Anyway.. a result of sorts

(not thinking about the raised insurance premium, the boards on my window and the new alarm on the house...)

think its time for a  :beer1:

We got robbed last night- someone beat up my (female) housemate and robbed her laptop. Good job two of my other housemates are rugby players eh?

Lowlife scum- breaking in to someone's house is bad enough, but hitting a girl? That just takes the biscuit for being an utter twat.

That does suck.

Hope the bastard had twenty different colours of shit kicked out of him by your rugby playing housemates, although if they actually robbed her laptop it sounds as though the cunt got away

I don't know how many there were- I presume only one, but he nicked it and scarpered before the rugby boys could get him unfortunately. I wasn't actually in the house at the time so I don't know exactly.
