Just seen this via a link on the Guardian - pretty self explanatory really.

Wonder how they will enforce it? There must be a backlog of millions of videos on there with copyrighted music already.

Silly really, as I reckon it does a lot more to promote the music than damage sales. How many peoiple would actually go on to youtube and search for an amateur video that has a song they like as background music, rather than download it for a few pence, compared to people who hear a song they like on a video and then go and buy it.

They've e-mailed me a load of times.
They banned 2 of my videos, and I've had to mute the video for them to remain online.

Load of bollocks.

Over the last year I've had a steady stream of alerts from YouTube letting me know that music that I have used has been identified as belonging to someone else and that for now nothing will be done, but summat might happen later and if I want to disagree bla bla bla - I assume that they have some kind of music identifying software a bit like BirdBot but for tunes.

I did use some music that was available/licensed via youtube for a couple of vids, but they have withdrawn the right for that use and the vids are now supposed to be silent (although I havn't been arsed to check).

Surely youtube, EMI, Sony, Warner et al will realise that subjecting the world to my own compositions will be far more damaging to the global economy than letting amateur video makers dick about with other peoples tunes?

I have noticed that some excerpts from TV shows etc have been removed too, presumably for copyright reasons. I gues they did it because they miss out on earnings from people buying a box set of a TV series if a 5 minute clip is available on Youtube.

Is it only fairly mainstream music that is getting picked up?

As far as I can tell, Yes.

UMG and WMG have been my main complainants

Not sure about that.  One of mine got banned for an obscure Primus song, and the other for some non-mainstream metal.
I've had loads of warnings too.
Bastards, the lot of 'em.

I've had 5 claims against me, but only 1 has been blocked by the owner - and that one had the same soundtrack as this one that hasn't been blocked (yet)

As you say Dr T, their loss
