Firewire laptop connection
January 11, 2009, 04:11:50 pm
Alright, not sure if this be in computers or here, but it's DV camcorder-y so here goes.

I used to use a firewire to firewire cable to upload my DV footage to my old housemate's laptop, no probs.

Now I've bought myself one, I've come to try and connect and lo and behold, no input for the firewire cable. I'm assuming my cheapo machine doesn't have the requisite hardware or something.

Having done a bit of googling it looks like I can't just buy a firewire to USB cable and connect it like that, so anyone got any beta on what I can do to get the footage on my laptop? Had seen reference to a 'firewire to USB hub', but couldn't really work out if that's what I need.

Cheers in advance.

as far as I know it is a hardware issue - there are no usb to firewire cables. you will need to get a pci card like this if your lapto p supports it.

most camera manufactureres are pushing usb at the mo - maybe your camera will work with usb?
