East wind on Dartmoor
December 30, 2008, 11:54:27 am
I'm after a bit of beta on where the most sheltered spots are on Dartmoor in an easterly wind. Somewhere with some bouldering too, preferably  ;) Any opinions/advice gratefully received.

Yup, that wind sure is cold. I was up there the other day and found shelter at both Hound Tor (skin graft and aerobic wall bay) and Bonehill rocks (rippled wall area). Fucking freezing on the wrong size of the tor though. If the winds really bad you could check out Bovey woods.

Go to the woods (ie. Lustleigh Cleave or 'the woods)  ;)

Or head for the Atlantic Coast.. Had a nice sheltered session at Hartland Quay yesterday.

Bovey Woods are in brilliant nick at the moment and are at least 5 degrees centigrade less cold than the Tors, especially if there is an East wind blowing (they're in a S and W facing bowl). At their best on a sunny winter's day with a N or E wind blowing.
