Dislocated finger - help!
October 02, 2003, 10:43:33 am

My finger went "pop" while bouldering about a month ago - not tendon damage as all still worked ok.  Went to the Doc who agreed it had dislocated then popped straight back into place.  I've been taking it easy, as suggested, and neighbour-strapping it to take some of the strain off.  Problem is, when I've been climbing (or if I pull too hard) it hurts.  Quite a lot.  Not in the finger, or even where it joins my hand, but about an inch down - towards the middle of my hand.

Has anyone else done this?  I'm looking for estimated recovery time, suggestions as to what I should be doing (Banana Finger wasn't a good idea  :? ) or not doing.

Everyone keeps saying to take a few weeks off, let it rest and recover BUT as there is no tendon damage wouldn't I be better keeping the muscles etc strong so there's less chance of it happening again?

I know I should just go to the Physio, but I'd rather not pay £30 for advice I could possibly get on here!

I've read the other thread on dislocation by the way - just wondered if anyone could offer first hand advice!

Thanks in advance for any help.

The thing with speading £30 for a physios advice is that it will actually be correct, not ust a half guess based on purely speculation, which is the best i could offer!

Lol - fair point well made!  Maybe I'll just go to the physio!
