More an impressive seige by someone who lives a long way away than significant. Still can't believe Megos did it 3rd go..

It is odd what we deem as significant, as if it was a brit who'd done this, I bet no-one would second-guess the significance?

It's not about the number of ascents, neither about the grade, you french-pastry-munching cynic. It's about the aura of the route, about Sharma falling off the same move for a couple of years, about the good ol' days.
I know that nowadays everyone wants just 9b+ from kindergarten kids, but ffs let's keep it real.

Oh God, not the old "is it significant" one again. Where's Stevie Haston when you need him?

Arguing over what is significant is an integral part of this thread. Got to keep the tedium going during these long days.

I watched Jon on it when I was in Ceuse last year, he was real close,  really inspiring. Great to see he's finished it off, good intercontinental seige!

Do we need a universal significance formula involving;

a) grade
b) current highest grade in relevant discipline
c) number of repeats of route
d) time taken to repeat
e) distance traveled from home to route
f) gender
g) age

Don't forget nationality. Spaniards seem to have a handicap whilst Brits get additional kudos. Also reputation of the route. Also, elevation gain - sideways shuffles are the best!
+1 to what Pete said

Is it significant when a visiting Yank solos a 200ft E8 6b?

Definitely impressive, at least.

I'm guessing this is Mr Honnold at Fairhead. The Complete Scream?

Edit: just found the clip. It's a fine looking slice of rock and an obvious target.
