1:42 pad dab.

..... but then he drops off? And the uncut send footage comes after a few more painful looking falls

I had the same split second reaction, gotta keep watching before making the big dab call

Sorry, I'll insert a smiley each time I make a joke, in case it's not obvious.

Oops - I'll assume joke from now on then, maybe that's safer!

Given it's perhaps the most famous 9a in the world, and the general world standard, that seems a very low number of ascents.

Without a doubt. My mum and dad know all about the Dawn Wall and the crux pitch 15. I've just checked, and they've never heard of action direct or Wolfgang

Ella Russell has ticked per project, Gringer 8b+, in the frankenjura. By my count that makes her the 13th British woman to climb 8b+ or harder.

Josh Ibbotson - Northern Lights on Friday. Mega effort and persistence. Watched him get so, so close a couple of weeks ago, being maybe one foot move from success, so great to see he was able to get it over the line this season.

Edit - ha remus beat me to it

Ace, and in the Frankenjura no less. I bet there aren’t many UK men and women who have done that.

Whoops, little typo in the route name.

The Sharma Dreamcatcher clip is the first climbing video I watched as it’s what came up after I Googled “hardest rock climb” after rediscovering climbing as an adult. I learnt about sport climbing, traverses, power screaming and just how hard climbing could be from that film.

Mental to watch it again, particularly as I now understand what a bizarre choice Moccasyms were for it.

Love the bouldering mindset of having to get 4 grades stronger than the climbing you need to to a bit tired 😂

Also, I love the blithe optimism of thinking: I can do this, I just need to improve my boulder grade from 8A to 8B+.

I must confess that I do not quite understand how it is a problem for others if I would post a pic on a route I am trying. This one, e.g. I have never done and am unlikely to do https://www.instagram.com/p/BuO44UqhqdYiJ9a60qbLQCJsY5aw9qETFStWfg0/

but I am sure to try it a bit more as my better half has a project on that crag and I have kind-of run out of better things to do.

Aside from the fact that it's Instagram so all it boils down to is look-at-me-love-me-please shitposting, I don't care if they haven't done it because they've made it clear that they haven't done it. Posting a photo with no caption of you on a climb you've not done is different, as is saying "big links" when you've held one position/done one move.

Aside from the fact that it's Instagram so all it boils down to is look-at-me-love-me-please shitposting,
At some point this popular opinion needs a thread of it's own, to either justify or refute. To my mind the same logic can to a greater or lesser extent be applied to all forms of self expression (including posting opinions on forums) which stray beyond the strict bounds of personal necessity. Why is IG categorically different to any other platform du jour. Yes, perhaps it does foster a particularly vacuous and narcissistic style but that doesn't mean all content fits that label. In the modern world you have the choice to be a techno hermit or to choose your poison vis-a-vis where you 'speak', some people prefer the visual.

I'd be into this thread. The interesting thing about IG as I see it is the combination of photo/video and words, sometimes which bear very little relevance to each other. Its also interesting to think about where the particular 'Insta-style' (which is definitely a thing as far as I can tell) was born and why; perhaps as a result of no word limits on posts?

Perhaps it's a bit like the argument against cultural appropriation but with routes as the currency.. (I'm only being half serious here, I couldn't *really* give much of a fuck what anyone else gets up to in their online fantasy climbing worlds). As in - some people think dimly of climbers who've created a career that relies heavily on self-promotion, to appropriate the idea of being good enough to succeed on famous hard routes that they're not at the level necessary to succeed on. Or something.

You’d never catch anyone posting about trying a hard route they haven’t done yet on this forum.
